Thanks for the detailed reply. The file is associate with the Microsoft Reader. One test I did was to associate the manual.pdf with Word and invoking Help/F1, Word was invoked. Word wanted to convert the pdf and I declined. I set the manual.pdf association back to Microsoft Reader, and Help/F1 does ...

Help/F1 has no effect. No manual, no error message Reader does not start up.
