Can you use the CTG Layer on video clips?
Hello. I have a black and white more or less pencil test animation that was done in another program, but I'd like to color it in TVPaint. Is there a way to color video clips in tvpaint? Here's an example of the animation. The whole thing is 1:30.

Could virtual studios become a thing?
Well, I guess they already are. People freelancing with remote workstations have been happening for years, but I’ve been seeing these popping up recently. https://simpleanimation.com https://nimblecollective.com https://www.artella.com/home To me, a complete novice, this sounds pretty exciting. The ...

Could there be a future for TVPaint iPad ?
I know, I know. This topic has been brought up in the forums a number of times, and the TVPaint crew has answered it a number of times. The only reason I bring it up again is because of this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fI30g9Dw95U That's fully fledged port of a really popular drawing software t...

Are dongles still relevant?
Just something I wanted to be hundred percent sure on. If I bought TVPaint today would I just be able to get a code and download it, or would I have to wait for the usb stick/ dongle to be delivered from France and end up on my door?

What's the best kind of laptop to use for TVPaint?
For someone who wants to get into digital art, I know very little about computers. For the most part I've gotten along fine with nothing more than a dinky $400 laptop from the local superstore and a 60$ pen tablet, but that was all just for practice. Now that I might actually being making a legit sh...

Opentoonz seems to be cleaning itself up.
A little over a year ago the announcement that the software that Ghibli used to scan and color their movies was going to be released for free. As you could expect everybody lost their minds with excitement, and when the software finally dropped there were tutorials made by fans up within an hour. Wh...

Imitate LUMO / Roger system lights and shadows in TVPaint
I realize that there are a lot of veteran animators on this site, so I thought if anyone could comment on these things it would be some of you. Space Jam and Looney Tunes: Back in Action were not good movies, but they had pretty good animation. And the thing I'm always noticing on animations like th...

Re: More questions about color and shading
YOU CAN DO THAT IN NUKE!? I have really got to figure out compositing one of these days. But I do think the Toon Shader could work. Thanks for the advice!

This artist on Vimeo tried their hand at creating the animation style of Klaus; you can see it here. https://vimeo.com/132038089" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; It doesn't look exactly like it, but it is still rather impressive. His approach seems pretty standard; rough, cle...

The "Animation Paper" guy is at it again
Anyone remember an article over two years ago talking about a new program called Animation Paper? It promised a clean, and user-friendly interface and was, more or less, a revamp of an old program called Plastic Animation Paper. The creator of the program, Niels Krogh Mortensen, tried to start a cro...

Cartoon Saloon does it again! Amazon, the online store. has a division where they've been making new cartoon series. To do so, they've been letting artists animate a pilot of a full cartoon show. They put the pilots up, let people vote on them, and the one the judges like the best will get full seri...

Re: How would you achieve shading like this in post producti
Huh, I guess all of those could work in the long run. Thanks for the support! Although, I would have to really brush up on my skills in After Effects ( which are already limited). Its honestly surprising how difficult it is to find good resources on compositing for 2D animation. Speaking of, I wonde...

How would you achieve shading like this in post production?
I love watching the Gobelins student films when they come out, but one thing I love checking out just as much are the "making-of" films the students put out. My favorite this year was "Le Dernier Jour d'un Condamné " and after checking out this making of film I got curious. https...
