I'm trying to learn about making custom brushes or adjusting existing brushes. I looked at the video tutorials but I still have questions.

How would I go about making or adjusting a brush so that it feathers out smear style as in the example on the right. To get that result I used 2 tools (a simple pen tool plus the tool that looks like a palette knife under tool presets/painting brushes) and I'm looking to combine it into one.
I've played with some of the brushes that others have shared on this forum, for example the malcoonong "dry brush", which I like a lot. But currently I'm looking for something imitating working with wet on wet oil paints.
I would like to know how I can add an attribute to a brush, for example a simple brush that has no smear attribute - how can I add that?
I'm also curious how I could improve the thick/thin line capabilities of a brush.

Second question - in the tool presets panel - if I use the top left pencil I find that I need to apply quite a bit of pressure before anything appears. The top left chalk for example doesn't require much pressure at all. Sometimes I find a brush that I like, but if it requires a lot of pen pressure before anything appears I like it less.
Especially when using a paper I found that brushes based on the oil brush leave an easier mark (nice).
Is there an attribute like pen sensitivity that I could add to adjust certain brushes (similar to what we can do in the wacom pen settings, but not global like that - just local to that brush)? Thanks!

Thanks Elodie. It was very educational following along your tutorial, step by step. At the end you use Shift. How is that different from smear? Is it like Smear, but without the need to set the wet profile to smear?

Making brushes is fun. Thanks again. I got some nice results already.

I'm trying to understand more about the wet profiles.
The wet profile Origin keeps the color I created the brush with. I probably will not use that much. Alpha stamp doesn't have Shift, which seems essential for what I'm trying. Luma Invert seems the closest. Is there a place where I can adjust Luma?
I like some of the results in Smear Stamp and Smear Source, but it's a bit unpredictable - I don't understand yet how these modes are supposed to work.

I looked up Hue Stamp in the manual. "Hue Stamp : uses the A color but keeps the hue." I don't understand this sentence. Let's say my A color is red. So Hue Stamp uses red (A color), but keeps the hue (red)? Seems unclear. When I tried using it it worked exactly like Origin, in my case that's black.

At the end you use Shift. How is that different from smear?

It depends on if you talk about Special Brush or Custom Brush :

Smear Stamp will smear 2 colours (the one applied and the one currently used)

It means it will affect the hue channel from the original colour of your brush. For instance :

Thanks Elodie. I just realized that I misunderstood something. I was interested in the 8 brush mode options. I thought the wet profile button right above the drop down menu was the "name" of the drop down menu.
So instead of this:
