efficient way to color individual lines

Post by furushil »

Hello,

I have a question about coloring individual lines.
Does anyone know of a good and efficient way to color individual lines of a drawing, when you have a black line drawing but some lines inside have to be colored differently?

The way I do it right now is to select an area with the free hand selection tool, then use the filled rectangle to color a lot of lines at once and then use a brush to color the remaining spots.

I switch on preserve alpha, then use a 20 px brush to colour. Had an ink&paint job once with characters having up to 8 different line colours.

That is also the way I do it right now. I forgot to mention that I also use preserve alpha.

I was wondering if anyone knows of a more efficient way.

The only faster way would be to draw the coloured lines in their respective colour in the first place. You could create a custom panel with the brushes in the correct colours.

You can also use the Fx "line colorize" (in "color" category) + color adjust.

Thank you Elodie, that is a good trick to combine those two effects.
In my case it did not work because the line color was very different from the fill color.

I ended up creating a button that helped me to automate the process of: grab filled rectangle tool, apply fill, deselect selection, grab free hand selection tool :)
I am so thankfull for those custom buttons and the fact that I can assign them to keyboard shortcuts :D
