[resolved]Video Input in 32bits TVPaint 11.0.6 on Mac (El Capitan) not working

Post by D.T. Nethery »

Mac OS 10.11.6 (El Capitan), Macbook Pro , Logitech C930 webcam -

After the update to TVPaint 11.0.6 it is no longer possible to select a webcam in the Video Input window with the 32bits version of TVPaint 11.0.6 on Macs OS 10.11 El Capitan. (64bits version works as normal; I do not know if this issue also impacts Windows version of TVPaint 11.0.6) *EDIT: this issue appears to be isolated to Mac OS El Capitan only. On my other computer with Mac OS Sierra, Video Input works normally with both the 32bits and 64bits version of 11.0.6 (and previous version 11.0.3) .

But here is the behavior I get on El Capitan:

When opening the Video Input window in TVPaint 11.0.6 32bits , the DEVICE is set to NONE. So , I change this to MovieGrabber as usual . Then I should able to click on the SETTINGS button and from the Source tab select the video input device that I want to use (in this case Logitech webcam) . But when I click on SETTINGS , nothing happens ... then the interface is frozen and I must FORCE QUIT to get out of TVPaint 11.0.6 32bits.

*EDIT 2 - I found out this also impacts the Video Input in TVPaint 11.0.3 32bits and TVPaint 10.5.7 32bits running on El Capitan , so this must be something that Apple changed recently on El Capitan, because before I had no problems with Video Input using 11.0.3 32bits or 10.5.7 32bits on El Capitan.

---------

*Actually, that's not quite true about TVPaint Pro 64bits version working as normal: in previous version 11.0.3 if I opened the Video Input window , under DEVICE the Logitech Webcam appears as one of the video device options to select. Now it does not appear there in TVPaint 11.0.6 64bits. I can see the internal Facetime (iSight) camera listed and also webcam control software options like iGlasses and CamTwist and Many Cam. I can run the Logitech webcam through iGlasses, CamTwist , or ManyCam , so it's not totally inaccessible , but it's a different behavior that the Logitech webcam alone no longer appears as an option in TVPaint 11.0.6 .

**CORRECTION: this was actually a conflict with the Logitech Camera Settings software running in the background . After disabling Logitech Camera Settings the Logitech C930 webcam will appear in the list of available devices in TVPaint 64bits Video Input as normal.

Again, this issue appears to be isolated to Mac OS El Capitan . Seems to be OK on Sierra. I don't know about Yosemite or Mavericks .

Strange, I don't have this behavior on El Capitan. If I select Movie Grabber and click on SETTINGS, a window appears... But my OS is not up to date. I will launch all updates for El Capitan tomorrow and make another try.

Thanks for checking . I would be glad to find out that this is just some odd glitch on my end and not something that impacts all users who are using El Capitan. The strange thing is that up until very recently Video Input was working fine on El Capitan with version 11.0.3 ... I haven't done any video captures since updating to 11.0.6 , so when I tried using the Video Input today in 11.0.6 I discovered it would not work with the 32bits version. If you find otherwise that will be good news. Then I can try to figure out why I'm getting this glitch on my end.

Hi David,

After updating El Capitan, I can't reproduce the bug. So maybe, it's something on your side that causes it, sorry.

Well, I am actually relieved to read that you can not reproduce the issue and it may be just a glitch on my end. I was imagining the dozens of anguished
messages I would start getting from my online students who are running El Capitan and have updated to TVPaint 11.0.6 , if their Video Input suddenly did not
work ...

So , I may just update this computer to Sierra . My other computer (work computer) is running Sierra and everything seems to be functioning normally.

This whole thread seems to have been a false alarm , so please feel free to delete the thread , or edit the title to insert the word RESOLVED.

Some further info about this issue:

I found that if I reset TVPaint 32bits to default configuration the Video Input operated normally. So it seems the issue was a corrupt configuration. (although the only thing not working was the Video Input, everything else was normal).
