Cross hatch effect

Post by ryannewelluk »

Hi, I'm interested in producing this kind of shading effect: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vMrkV0VxOrM/T ... -knife.jpg

I was wondering if there was a suitable brush or maybe it could be achieved with Toon Shading from the FX Stack. Maybe there's a better way or a case of manually drawing every line which would take a long time?

Thanks for the help if you can

You can easily produce your own brushes for this. Create a dozen crosshatch spots and play around with spacing etc. I've noticed that it's easier to create a dark effect with lots of hatch layers than a light one, because the repetitionis easier spotted. Also a non-directional hatching looks better.

Here's an example.

Thanks slowtiger, I like the brush.

I guess I'm looking for something less random and more structured so the marks follow the contours of the object, I'll have a play with the settings.

It's much easier to create a mask of the object and cross hatch inside it.
