Additional Color Groups

Post by D.T. Nethery »

I'd like to request the ability to add more Color Groups . Right now there is a default of 12 Color Groups (which may be edited from the default colors) but I would like to have the ability to add more than 12 colors to the Color Groups.

I am absolutely with you and this is a deficiency I have been bothered by from the very beginning. I hope this won't be a difficult improvement to fix soon.

and a related request for the color groups.
regarding the UI...

when a color group is hidden, each layer is currently minimized to 5 pixels
and this saves substantial space compared to a collapsed layer (12 Pixels) or a normal layer (60 pixels)

But when you have many layers this still can take up a lot of space. and the layers are not exactly Hidden
my request. minimize the hiddenfiles UI presence and really "hide" them by reducing to 3 or even 2 pixels.

If we reduce the size of the hidden layers, it might be quite difficult to distinguish different colors following each other.

In the one pixel version that's probably true, but the two pixel variant seems fine to me.

not really,
I agree with Schwarzgrau,
And even if its a little harder, that is not a big problem. The ColorGroup Panel (that has to be active to hide/unhide layers) shows clearly whats going on.
The advantage of a better overview is bigger

I agree with Peter about the desirability of compacting the hidden Color Groups more , but I'm wondering if my original request at the top is possible ? (to have more than 12 Color Groups ) .

We are still considering the technical feasability of adding more colors in the color groups.
And we have tried reducing the size of the hidden layers, which doesn't look bad eventually => in the To-Do List

ha, sorry to hijack your request David!
But i agree off course, more groups are important to have.

ideally in combination with layer folders.

Actually i’d be happy to even be able to completely hide a color and not just reduce :)

i agree!

Though then you do need some IU item to Flag the user that there are Hidden layers present.

maybe a horizontal red line at the top of the panel or something ...
