I received an email from TVPaint suggesting I need to upgrade to 11.0.9 to work with Mac OS Catalina. Thing is, 11.0.8 is already 64 bit, so it should work fine. The email also says that previous users of 11 can get a 25% discount on the upgrade, but I'm not seeing an upgrade price. The price indicated is 1250 euros, which I believe is what I paid for a full license less than a year ago, so how is that an upgrade price?
The email also says that previous versions of 11 will not be supported. So no more support for 11.0.8 even though I have owned a new license less than a year? How can that be? Will 11.0.8 work okay with Catalina? I don't see any compelling reasons to upgrade to a new version if 11.0.8 will continue to work, as it should. Certainly paying essentially the full purchase price for, as far as I can see, a pretty minor incremental update seems out of line, but please let me know if I am misunderstanding something.
Thanks

Re: Why 11.0.9?
I'm pretty sure the upgrade is from 10 to 11. Not 11.0.8 to 11.0.9
I just downloaded 11.0.9 from the site without any hassle or paying anything.
I believe the big change is that Standard users now have 64-bit. They used to wall that feature off to only serve the Pro users.

Re: Why 11.0.9?
Ah, well that's not clear at all from the email I just received and on logging into my account, I found an upgrade link under the Support heading (but not under software). An email to users with a direct link to a free upgrade would be much easier. Or even a message that says, "already an 11.0.08 user? Click here for your free upgrade to 11.0.9".
Thanks for the tip so I could find it.

Re: Why 11.0.9?
I think it's a typo. They refer to previous versions of TVpaint since historically upgrades are only needed when going from one full number to the other. V9 -> V10 -> V11 etc...

Re: Why 11.0.9?
I've received the same email. It states that I can get a 25% upgrade on TVP 11.0.9 from either TVPaint 9 or 10. I thought I'd jump on it (TVPaint doesn't usually offer discounts):
Something's wrong. I think this discount is still in Beta mode...
Or perhaps this discount is only applicable to Mac OS (I use Windows)?
I'm so confused.
I have 10.5, so I clicked on the email link, "Upgrade now." But it leads me to a page with only two options: buying the full version of TVPaint 11, or buying an upgrade for TVPaint Standard Edition. (I don't want the Standard Edition, I use the Professional Edition.)A second good new, for those who still used the previous versions of TVPaint 11 : We would be pleased to offer you a 25 % discount on the upgrade to TVPaint 11.0.9.

Re: Why 11.0.9?
Yes, very confusing. The message literally says "for those using the previous version of TVPaint 11". The previous version of 11 is 11.0.8, so that's me. I am offered a 25% discount to upgrade to 11.0.9, but it turns out, the upgrade is free for me because I have 11.0.8. It should say, "for those using TVPaint 10 and earlier", but still, there is no clear link to this upgrade, so indeed you are right to be confused!

Re: Why 11.0.9?
Thank you David. My reaction was the same, like, whaat? Upgrade from 11.08 to 11.09 with a 25% discount? Then I realized someone must have done a typo in the letter. It is more worrisome that some Mac users (@daninski, for example), report lags on Macs. Therefore I plan to stay on 11.08 because so far I didn't see the upgrade features worthy. But I remember the anger rushing into me when I've read the offer to pay for the upgrade from 11 to 11 and feeling of anxiety that we have to change our workflow in the studio to Toon Boom. Luckily, we are not there. Yet.
