Image Library - Create New Clip from image

Post by D.T. Nethery »

With images stored in the Image Library we currently have options to Create New Project From Image and Create Custom Brush From Image .

I am requesting that an option be added for Create New Clip from Image.

Even better: Create New Clip from All Selected Images. So, for example , if I have 25 images in the Image Library and select them all , 25 new Clips are created . If I only selected 9 of the 25 images then 9 new clips are created.

I think this would be possible because if we can Create a New Project from Image , why not Create New Clip from Image ?

That's a good idea indeed!
I'll add it to the list.

Hi David, just wondering : how would these 25 clips be created ?
  • in the current shot scene ?
  • in a new shot scene ?
  • all in the same shot scene ?
  • each clip in a different shot scene ?

do you mean scene vs clip?
(shot is not a thing in tvpaint. 8) )

i think separate scenes makes most sense as this library to timeline step, would usually be done to get a storyboard into tvpaint.
then the user would have to group them into scenes and/or clips manually.

But maybe its possible to look at the file name?
So that TVP will look in the library if the images are named according to a convention...
for instance:
sc001_sh008 & sc001_sh009 these would be put in the same scene.
And also, you'd want images to be in the same clip because usually in a storyboard each shot(clip in tvp) will have a couple of storyboard images

But to customize this process would require something like the current "Layer Preset manager",
a "Scene import manager " if you will, so users can set tvpaint to group a library import according to their wishes.
So that when you import a batch of storyboard drawings from the library they will be connected into scenes according to the users panel naming convention.

Yeah, sorry I updated my previous message.
To me the "shot" (or the scene) is the kind of grey cell into which the clips are wrapped.

i'd like a "Scene import manager" where you can set yourself how tvpaint should import the library

a panel something like this, where you can set what filenames should be grouped into scenes:

This is nice Peter, but I won't have time to do it for the 11.5.2, which is expected for the end of the month. Could you please post your proposal in a separate topic ?

Ok, I spent a few days trying to create a new clip using an image from the library ; and I face difficulties.

So I will save this one for later, we'd need a good code cleanup before I can manage to do this. I need to dive deeper into the code.
