For the beat, I just layed out some simple percussions and the snap is a mix of 3 different records of snaps to make it more... "snappy".

Yes, there's no copyright involved.
In my case the sound part didn't require any musical skill but I know many animators and background artists that are also good musicians.
I used to play drums and bass when I was a kid and I own a guitar too... but I'm so bad at it that I can't call myself a musician ! XD
I don't know how some people practice both animation and music and manage to be good at the 2... I gave up playing guitar long ago so I could focus more on animation but even like that it's damn hard !

It is funny how multiple contestants also made their own music.

I noticed other animators added sound too but I can't speak for them.
One of them obviously used the "Friends" opening music but otherwise I can't say if they made it by themselves or not.
Anything is possible.

I didn't even get in the top 3 at the contest "Remember the 90s" but well... the show must go on !
