macOS Monterey / Ventura / Sonoma and TVPaint Animation 11 [UPDATE 02/10/2024]

Today I updated my work computer from an aging Macbook Pro (late 2013, running Mojave) to a Mac Mini (2018) with 3.2 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7,
16 GB RAM, running MacOS Monterey 12.4. So far, so good ! TVPaint is running very smooth (noticeably faster than on the old Macbook.) It's only been one day and I haven't been doing any heavy duty production work today, but I have not noticed any lagging issues or any other problems.

I'm happy that my twelve year old Cintiq 21UX 2nd Gen (c. 2010) is running fine on Monterey (albeit with an older Wacom driver that says it is for Mac OS 10.12 - 10.15 , but seems to get along well with Mac OS 12.4) .

oh boy! after years away (tvp 11.0.8 on a macbook pro) i'm hoping to update TVP on a 'new' mac mini, 2021, m1 chip, 16GB memory.
by now, on page 5 of this thread, the latest monterey is 12.5; anyone using tvp 11.5.3 on it? i read that 12.4 has been working.
or maybe i should be asking about TVP 11.7; pending as of 06/06/22?

I have TVPaint 11.5.3 running on an Intel Mac Mini (2018), MacOS Monterey 12.5.
I'm also a beta tester, so I'm running TVPaint 11.7 , too. Both 11.5.3 and 11.7 running fine.

So Mac OS 13, or Ventura, is out. Any advice on using it with TVPaint? I know the usual call is to wait, but wondering if TVPaint has been testing the software at all and if it seems to be okay, or not. If not, any plan on when it will be approved for Ventura?

Hello David, according to our latest tests, everything seems to work as expected, BUT you can never be sure with MacOS releases, because some hotfix update can be released by Apple and indirectly break some stuff in TVPaint, therefore we still suggest that users postpone their transition to Ventura.

Thanks for the info about that. Are you testing the final Ventura release now to see if it works as beta versions did? Will you report here?

I'd like to suggest that sending an email blast to all registered users would be really helpful. Like when there is a TVPaint version update or info about compatibility with a new OS, especially if the user is registered as a Mac user when there is a major Mac OS update. Just saves having to randomly check this forum every so often.

My message was posted yesterday just after we conducted some tests on the 1.0 release of Ventura, which as I said, seemed to worked fine.
Regarding batch emails for OS updates, it is a good idea indeed.

According to our latest test on release day, it seems to work fine but a hotfix from Apple might still break stuff.

11.7 is running fine on MacOS Monterey for me.
