JoeMurray wrote: 11 Jan 2023, 12:25 Okay, so this is very obnoxious. I'm using TVpaint 11 pro, and I've split all of the scenes into clips successfully. The problem now is, I can't get to the menu you have to change the clip into a TVpaint project. I've tried all of the right-clicking I could do, and the menu is not coming up. Do I have a different version than you?
How can I get around this?
Which version do you have and which OS (Windows or Mac) ?

I'm on 11.7.1 , but it was the same for me on 11.5 . I'm on MacOS 12.6.2 Monterey .

Trying to replicate your issue I find that if I right-click on the name of the clip or around the outer edge of the clip window the menu does not come up , but if I right-click inside the selected clip (on the image) the menu appears.

The clip menu you show looks identical to the clip menu on the top bar, except without the "create a new project from selected clips.

I'm out of ideas. You should be able to pull up the menu that has the option to Create New Project from Selected Clip if you're using TVPaint 11.5 or TVPaint 11.7. I can't figure out why you would not be able to access that menu. If you are working on a version of TVPaint that is older than v 11.5.3 I would suggest you log in to your TVPaint account on the main TVPaint website to update your software. I don't remember exactly at what point the "Create New Project from Selected Clip" function was added , whether it is in the older versions of TVPaint 11 or 11.5 , but I do know for sure it is in version 11.5.3 and in 11.7.1 (the current version).

NOTE: to find out exactly what version you are using , click on the Help Menu in TVPaint > About TVPaint , to bring up a window with the version information.

You could also use the Contact form on the main TVPaint website to get in touch with the official TVPaint Tech Support. They can set up a TeamViewer session with you to help you work through the problem.

Does upgrading to a newer version of TV paint affect the work I've already done on the project?

It should not have any effect on the work you've done previously in an older version. (I have some old TVPaint files made in version 8.6 and version 9 that must be around 15 years old or older which still open in the current TVPaint 11.7.1 ). If you want to run an experiment before you upload , you can download the Trial version of TVPaint 11.7.1 for free and then attempt to open your project file just to be sure. (the trial version is fully functional except you can't save or export any work from it) . To access the Trial version of 11.7.1 , log-in to your TVPaint account on the main TVPaint website and click on the Trial version , set the configuration you need (Mac) , and download it.

If you have any version of TVPaint 11 the update to the current version 11.7.1 should be a free update. If you have version 10.5 or earlier then there would be an upgrade fee. You'll have to contact TVPaint Sales about that. https://tvpaint.odoo.com/en_US/contactus

Hi, Joe -
(and anyone else following this discussion)

Re: Batch Renaming of Clips -

Well, how embarrassing is this for me ? (I must be getting old ! :( ) . After some poking around in old posts on this forum I am reminded that back in 2011 a TVPaint user named Mads Juul posted his custom script panel for Batch Renaming Clips. I believe I had downloaded Mads' script at one time , but apparently I totally forgot about it ! DOH! But in my defense, in the past I haven't done much in the way of batch renaming of clips because I haven't had a great need for it. I usually work on individual animation scenes in TVPaint, not storyboards/animatics . But our recent conversation has reminded me that the Clip naming convention when splitting a long project into smaller clips really needs a batch renamer . And now I have remembered it already exists ! (I confirm it still works in TVPaint 11.7.1)

Mads' script is posted here:
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=5403&p=47609

At the time Mads and several others mentioned: "this batch renaming of clips function really should be built-in to TVPaint." I agree.

In the meantime , this custom script panel works to do the job.

Select all your Clips in the Project view.
Then click on the first button under Configuration to set a new prefix for the clips (such as SCENE_ or SC_ or CLIP_ or SHOT_ )
Click the second button under Configuration to set the starting number for the clips as 1 . (I notice that Mads' script doesn't seem to allow for starting
the numbering at anything other than 0 or 1. I don't know if this can be changed by adjusting the script ?)
Then click on the third button under Batch Rename. Now all your selected clips should be renamed.

11.0.0 ? Or any of the versions of TVPaint 11 along the way up to 11.0.10 which was the last one before the numbering switched up to 11.5.0 ? The last 11.5 version was 11.5.3, before 11.7 came out in October 2022.

I believe if you have TVPaint 11 (any version) you should be able to log-in to your TVPaint account on the main TVPaint website to download the latest version (TVPaint 11.7.1) as a free update.
https://tvpaint.odoo.com/en_US/web/login

To find the specific version of TVPaint 11 you are currently using , click on the Help Menu in TVPaint , then select About TVPaint from the Help Menu. That will open up a window that has your version of TVPaint listed on the top bar of the window.

Because you said you are running on Mac OS Sierra 10.12.6 you are probably still using the security dongle , right ? (you have an option to update to dongleless security system if you want , but you'll have to contact TVPaint Support regarding that . https://tvpaint.odoo.com/en_US/contactus

Be aware that the newest TVPaint 11.7.1 is 64bit version only (32bit apps went away on Mac as of MacOS 10.15 Catalina ... the last MacOS to run 32bit apps was MacOS 10.14 Mojave). So if you're accustomed to exporting in 32bit mode using Quicktime .mov codecs , you won't have Quicktime .mov codecs anymore for export (because Quicktime Pro was 32bit only and Apple has killed it.) Now the newer versions of TVPaint (in 64bit mode) use the open-source FFMpeg video codecs for export to .mov and .mp4. FFMpeg MPEG4 Codec is equivalent to Apple Quicktime H.264 codec, FFMpeg ProRes Codec is equivalent to Apple ProRes 4444 codec. FFMpeg Lossless Codec is equivalent to Apple Animation Lossless codec. If you were accustomed to using other iterations of Apple ProRes codecs (such as ProRes 422 or ProRes 422 LT or ProRes 422 HQ) you won't be able to those Apple Quicktime codecs for direct export from TVPaint , but you can export as FFMpeg ProRes or FFMpeg Lossless and then if need be convert the files to Apple codecs like ProRes 422 or 422HQ if you use Quicktime Pro 7 (which still works on Sierra, High Sierra, and Mojave) or use Adobe Media Encoder which still has support for Apple Quicktime codecs.

Okay, that's a lot to absorb. It's late here in belgium, so I'll attack it tomorrow. I did not use a dongle for mine. I think I purchased it in the fall of 2021

Ok, if you purchased it in Fall of 2021 then you would have the dongleless option , because if I recall the dongleless security option was introduced in 2020 with version 11.5.0 , so by Fall of 2021 it was probably version 11.5.3 (released Oct 06, 2021). You can tell for sure by looking under the Help menu > About TVPaint Animation.

But if you have version 11.5 it doesn't explain why you can't access that pop-up menu which allows you to Create a New Project from Selected Clip , because that feature was definitely available in version 11.5.3 (before that , too, if I recall , but I don't remember exactly which version that function was introduced.)

My advice is get in touch with TVPaint Tech Support via the main website. https://tvpaint.odoo.com/en_US/contactus
