I would guess that is because the function did not exist until version 11.5.3 and you are using 11.5.2. The solution is to update your software.

Yes, so I just converted everything again (126 clips) and nothing was left as a result. Here is my screenshot

First of all, let me say I love the style of your characters and the color. This looks like something I will definitely want to see when it is released.

So, what I notice is missing along the top of your interface is the main Menu Bar. See: https://www.tvpaint.com/doc/tvp11/index ... menu-panel

main Menu Bar is not visible.jpg

(this is what the menu bar looks like)

The Menu Bar is where the different project tabs will be visible, whether you have one project open or multiple projects open. Clicking from project tab to project tab in the Menu Bar is how you can move between the open projects.

To restore the Menu Bar to your interface, go to the Windows Menu > Show > Menu Bar

You might also want to restore the default position of the Project window by clicking on this little symbol Image at the upper right corner of the Project window

I actually have one more question. What is the best resolution export for tvpaint files into say final cut pro, that will end up on a theatre screen?

That's a good question and like many questions the answer you'll get will likely be different from different people. "It depends ..."

If I recall, there has been some discussion on that topic in the past on this forum (search the forum, but here's a tip: the forum search engine isn't very good, so use Google Search, type in tvpaint forum and the subject matter you're searching for and you'll probably get more relevant search results from Google. Like "tvpaint forum aspect ratio project resolution" or something like that.)

It's certainly possible to project HDTV resolution 1920 x 1080 on a large theater screen, but on a film I consulted on a couple of years ago I was told by the editor that the standard resolution for theater projection should be 2048 x 1080. I would say if you're working with an editor (or will be working with an editor) ask them what they recommend. Also, check with the various film festivals (Annecy, Ottawa, Cannes, etc.) and find out what they recommend/require for films submitted.

At this point you've got the animation finished , so now you're coloring and doing final comp's with BGs , right ? So if your animation is sized at 1920 x 1080 in the original TVPaint files , you could just export it to final. mov files at that size. Or if you bumped up everything to 2048 x 1080 it shouldn't have a bad effect on the image quality because 2048 x 1080 isn't that much bigger than 1920 x 1080. Just to be sure, you could make a test export of just a short section of the film and then watch the test on the biggest 4k HDTV monitor you can find (or ideally project the test onto a theater screen) so you can check that the image quality holds up if you bump it up slightly. (as always , if re-scaling images , run tests to be sure that the aspect ratio (16:9 , 1.78:1 , or whatever it is) is not getting squashed or stretched , so the image retains the same proportions of the original.)

If your original animation in the TVPaint project files is already at a higher resolution , like 3K or 4K, then you should have absolutely no problem scaling it down to a 2048 x 1080 final version for theater projection.

But if it was me I would seek advice from a professional film editor or from film festivals to see what their requirements are for the films that are submitted.

Be aware that FinalCut defines 2K as 2048 x 1024, but DCP flat is 1998 x 1080 and DCP full is 2048 x 1080. Nice mess, isn't it?

No cinema or festival will care. Especially festivals are used to all kinds of formats screened one after another. Also the DCP format will accept any of these dimensions. Just make sure to put it in the contract with your client.

Thank you. You have been very helpful. I would love to share the film with you when it's done. It won't be streaming anywhere so I would need to send you a vimeo password probably to see it.

Another question. I''ve been finishing up my clips, but for some reason, the soundtrack is missing from them. I've looked up dependencies links, and I can't seem to figure out. Or why suddenly it started doing it. Do I have something turned off on import? Thank you.
