Bought TVP12 at launch, but still use TVP11

Post by Senneman »

Is there anyone else who is not satisfied either, like me? I mean, I use TVPaint every day and was very excited about the new version. Despite the high price. But if the software stays in this state, and I'm afraid of that, I don't think I'll ever use it.... Such a waste of money. But I just feel so confident and satisfied in version 11. Version 12 is intuitively a huge step backwards, it is a completely different software. Lots of unused blank spaces, unregistered mouse clicks, window management, ... while the version I use relies more on your drawing skills, the newer version is a pain to use that skill.
I feel really bad typing all this, but I've kind of lost my destiny that Tvpaint 12 will ever feel as responsive and perfect as Tvpaint 11.

At the moment i still prefer using 11 for work.
12 had a problematic launch, the worst crashes have meanwhile been solved,
and the people who still work at TVPaint are very dedicated and i trust them.

But there is no strong reason for me to go to v12, no fundamental improvements (yet) for animators... and that is indeed a small disappointment.

Hello,
if the software stays in this state, and I'm afraid of that, I don't think I'll ever use it
Are you using the latest version 12.0.2? As Peter Wassink posted, the biggest crashes have been fixed starting with v12.0.1, with 12.0.3 being around the corner.
it is a completely different software
This is interesting, how has the basic workflow been affected by the v12 additions for you? In my opinion (though I see how I can be considered as biased), if you keep to using the stuff which was already present in v11, it shouldn't change much, to the point that I didn't really have to modify the "basics" part of my TVPaint workshop program for training sessions, except for the camera part (thank goodness).
Lots of unused blank spaces
We are fixing those empty pixels above the timeline with the 12.0.3 update and making a few other UI adjustments.
unregistered mouse clicks
These sound like some of the day zero bugs which were quickly fixed after the first v12 release, if you are still experiencing this, please create a tech support request with some video examples.
I've kind of lost my destiny that Tvpaint 12 will ever feel as responsive and perfect as Tvpaint 11
Would you be interested in being lent a v11.0 version so you can compare? :P Please keep in mind that the v11 version you grew fond of had quite a long lifetime to improve. Still, nowadays when using v11 from our side, we only see what could or should have been done better.
Version 12 is the opportunity to improve a lot of things and many more improvements are coming. Also, a lot of the changes we made are under the hood and, while invisible to the users, enable us to vastly improve the speed at which we can fix and release stuff.
