Some animation from elsewhere

Post by slowtiger »

(part 2 of the series I started in the Mirage forum, writing about animation I like)

Minilogue - Animals
http://dekku.blogspot.com/2008/09/minil ... imals.html

It's not the first videoclip which combines live footage with animation which appears to be drawn on real world objects, but by far one of the most enjoyable. I like the combination of handheld camera with loosely animated critters, I like the cheerful colours and the simplicity of the designs, which in no way pretend to be part of the live footage.

UPDATE: CartoonBrew dug up a similar spot here: http://www.cartoonbrew.com/advertising/ ... approaches, which was done in exactly the technique and style the first one avoided. Interesting comparison. I like both.

Serge Élissalde: Thé Noir

This is one of the nicest examples of brush animation I have seen so far - very loosely, very jazzy. The style reminds me on the comics of Hunt Emerson - an artist I always wished to be an animator.

Unfortunately I don't have the faintest idea what the guy is talking about ...

wow, indeed lovely stuff!
i really enjoyed watching it.

The director Serge Elissalde also made a longer short "The Man on the Moon" which i saw in annecy 2007,
unfortunately however virtuous and skilful the animation was drawn, as a film it was largely incomprehensible.
a great animator doesn't always make a good director.

Nice to see he also made this little gem

thanks for sharing it

OK, it's already nominated for the Oscar. But I like it anyway: the kind of apparently simple animation which is carefully crafted down to the single line.

For sure. Thanks for posting it. I was so intrigued by the tiniest line representing the action. (sniffing the flowers).
