To do this, in TVPAP go to "Help > Check for updates..."
Then please report back what happens with your camera.
A lot has changed in the video grabber, all new panel, resizeable preview, play the n previous frames (makes making acceleration much easier than just the 'faded' previous frame), etc...
Well, a *LOT* has changed all thru the software !
I hope that the update to TVP 9.5.2 will solve the problem. (she is currently running TVP 9.0.7)
Tamarock, please let us know if this fixes the problem !
this morning in school i did have a crash while demonstrating the videograbber.
using the built in camera of the mac.
i could grab images but while i was clicking around in the video input panel, TVP crashed.
sorry for lack of details but i can only test this at HKU

I upgraded to 9.5.2, but unfortunately it did not help. Same situation, the "Device" pull down menu shows no other options, and under "Settings" - "Source" tab it shows my Built-in iSight camera highlighted with the other two greyed out options. After I installed I rebooted, trying it with the camera plugged in and turned on before launching the program but that didn't help either. I was hoping that would have fixed it.

I have a PC desktop so I downloaded the demo to try it on there to see if it would work but it did not. For "Device" it listed WDM as the device. There was no picture and I could not access the "Setting" window. Whenever I clicked the button it would do nothing, just like last night when I disabled the Built-in iSight camera. I guess because it is not finding a camera.

I heard from the user Tamarock (who is an online student at the school where I teach) that her issue with the Canon VIXIA HV-40 dv camera was resolved.
Apparently the default mode for the camera is in "HD mode" , but to work properly with TVP in needed to be switched to "DV Mode" in the camera menu.
This fix was suggested by one of our on-campus lab techs who had run into the same issue with the same model Canon VIXIA camera used with a different type of frame-capture software (Dragon Stop-Motion). He suggested making sure it was set to "DV Mode" , not "HD".
indeed, TVP doesn't support HD video capture as of yet.
You can setup a workaround through some drivers which route the signal from your camera to the software, but it's not so easy to setup.

Not sure if you're on a Mac or Windows computer ... what you want to do is very easy to do with iMovie on a Mac. Plug in the camcorder via firewire (Sony's "iLink") cable and iMovie will let you import the footage from your tapes . Edit in iMovie and burn to DVD or upload to a website (Youtube, etc.)
Or did you mean import the footage from the camcorder directly to TVP ?
