Can i use TVPaint as a telestrator?

Post by chapman »

We are working on a new show at our theater and want to use TVPaint as a telestrator... is that possible? We have a WACOM BAMBOO and a video mixing board. if we can have a black background we key that and use a brush on top of it. In photoshop they have a fullscreen option, but photoshop does not have a simple way to clear layers like TVPaint does.

thanks

Hi Matt,

Of course it's possible to draw above a video in TVP animation. In fact, when loading a movie with TVP animation, the movie is cut in several frames. So you just creat a layer above and you can draw above. (you can also draw on the movie, but if you make a mistake, you couldn't easily erase =p)

An example :

Here I have an example with the movie under and the text above. It gives me that :
example telestrator.mov

Don't hesitate if you have other questions

If you want to make something like the weather forecast (with, for example, a green or blue screen), you can use the color keyer.

This effect is too complex (and we don't have any blue screen here  ), so have a look on our user guide, lesson 11-14 :

Elodie, i believe Matt is talking about drawing over live video.

I know you can draw over live video using the video IN
but i have no idea if or how you can then output the result directly using the video OUT...

I wasn't sure =)

But I confirm, the result can be shown (/showed ? I need to re-learn my irregular verbs.. ¬_¬) on the direct out.

1) You have to have a DV plugin and DC camcorder

2) Open your Video Input Panel (right click on the "V" button)

3) Choose your DV camcorder in the device

4) If you have already enable the "V" button with the left-click, you will see what you're filming on the background. Click on the "V" button if you don't see anything.

5) Opend "Window" => "Out settings" => and enable "Keyer" and " Enable out"

6) So here, you can draw on your image, in real-time => if you film something, you will film and draw at the same time. This work will directly go into your DV camcorder.

I think this is only available with the professional edition. Maybe Elodie can confirm it?

The DV Out is only on the Professional version, I confirm =)

I also add : it works on every device on Mac, until Quicktime supports it
