Ashes Unnamed (finished)

Post by SeanAni »

long time no see guys:)

Image

"Ashes Unnamed" is an animated short film.
It was made during my exchange semester in Offenbach am Main, Germany.
It's for the project whose topic is "roots of progress".
Like last work "world i", I hope it can be also full of experimental things, from the story to the visual effects.

the softwares: TVPaint animation, Aftereffects, Photoshop

Image

Hope enjoy it:)
Please feel free to give any comments~

Visually, it's really interesting. The contrasts and the way you play with lights bring a great shabby mood to your movie. I appreciate also the montage : everything is really slow, but there always something moving (camera shakes, blur effects etc...). The graphical work is really good.

Now, concerning the sound, even if I like all the effects and the music, I think the long monologue spoils a little the image. I mean, the text is a little flooding our ears and so, we cannot completely get the beauty of your images. It's for me the only default of your film.

I'm a little bit curious about what you've done with TVP animation. Would you have some WIP to show us ? :D

Thank you Elodie:) so gald you like it~
I'm so appreciated that you tell so detailed feeling after watching the piece:)

For the monologue, it really disturbed me for a long time
I wanna make the story a little bit more clear,
but if only with the visual part, it's quite hard for people to get it.
But like you said, when I use monologue, it's hard to control the whole feeling of the animation.
It seems hundreds of information rush into the brain at the same time.

I still haven't got the satisfying solution:(

Do you have some special ideas from your opinion?:P

best,

Sean

I understand how complicated it should be to tell such a story.
Well, maybe could you only say some words, or very short sentences. Just enough to tell the story, but not too much, in order to let people look at the movie and let them think a little more by themselves. "What's happening ? .... Oh ! okay !"
