Split layer to clips - doesn't work [solved]

Post by slowtiger »

"This icon splits a layer in two after the current frame. The old part (left) stays on the current layer and
clip, the other part (right), will be created into another layer, into another clip."
So it says, but in my version (9.5.17 on Mac) nothing happens. Is there some magic involved?

Update to the 9.5.18 version :)

If you're talking about "split layers" from the Animator panel, it should work (I didn't have any problem). Of course, your cursor in the timeline must be in the "middle" of an instance. If you click on the button at the end of the layer, nothing will happen.

I've installed 9.5.18 now, but the problem persists.

What I did:
Open new file, create an anim layer with several frames, draw something.
Have some frame in the middle of that layer selected.
Click that "split layers" button: nothing happens.

Markus, I use this all the time and it works. I opened TVP 9.5.18 now to make sure I'm emulating what you are doing and bingo, it works. I use something called Animator Panel New; is that what you have too?

EDIT: I just tested it with the older Panel, called simply Animator Panel, and it works just as well.

Markus, please could you right click on the "split clip" button and edit it ? In the button list, you should have only one entry : "Key : Project : Clip : Split". Is that correct ?

it seems you still have the "old" Animator Panel,
in the newer version, it's [Key : Project : Clip : Split].
you can edit it to make it working properly.

Wasn't the Animator panel updated automatically with the installation of 9.5.18?

Nope, because an update of TVP animation doesn't destroy your preferences. And custom panels (even ones included in TVP animation) are considered as custom panels, so, as preferences.

Destroy the old Animator panel and go to Windows => custom panel => to choose the new Animator Panel (which is like below : )

Mine looks the same:

and when I close it and open it again from the menu, I get the same (I checked the commands). I found no command to "destroy" or delete that panel.

I just noticed this myself; I have two that look the same and even have the same names, but one works and the other doesn't. This is probably why I renamed a long time ago the one that works "Animator Panel new". Would you like me to send it to you, Markus?

Okay, in fact one panel kept the shortcuts of TVP Animation 9.0 (Clips didn't exit yet) and one panel has the good shortcuts (Project : CLIP : Split). But Yes, it's a little strange why you both had 2 Animator panels with the new aspect...

Thank you very much, Paul!

But of course it didn't work immediately.
First I removed any AnimatorPanel from TVP/Ressources/Plugins. Restart TVP: still no effect in the panel.
Then I removed user/library/TVP/plugins, since anything inside only had cryptic names. Restart TVP: no effect.
Then I removed user/library/TVP as a whole.
This finally did the trick, although now TVP starts with the default, and I will have to manually restore all my settings.

There must be a better way than this ...

[edit] ... and there is!

The default configuration features the bright grey interface. When I hovered over the panel I detected a small triangle which I didn't spot in my own, dark grey UI ... and there's that option to erase the panel!

So the correct sequence is:
in TVP, RMD over the Animator panel, first line, This Panel > delete. Quit TVP. Open program package/Ressources/Plugins, remove whatever AnimatorPanel is there. Put in the correct one. Restart TVP: the new AnimatorPanel will load inside my own configuration. Much simpler!

Thank you all for your help.

Quite understandable because I had to change some of those black areas in the original Mirage config also, to make certain panels easier to read/identify.
