TV Paint and Black Magic

Post by brake »

I'd like to use TVpaint for some stop motion projects. I've perused the forums here and have found very limited information on setup with the Black Magic Intensity Shuttle. I have a Canon 7D and would really like to know there is a solid solution with this combination of hardware. I've also searched extensively on google, but there is very very very little information about TVpaints support for the black magic card.

I am also on an x58 based windows 7 with NEC USB 3.0.

Hello Brake, welcome in the TVPaint forum.

Here is a topic about Black-Magic cards : viewtopic.php?f=10&t=4328" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Although we didn't test the Black Magic Intensity Shuttle directly, it should work (same way of working than the Black Magic Intensity, according to the Black-Magic developpers) and this topic might help you.
The biggest problem, IMO, is that most of the camera (Canon, Nikon, etc ...) doesn't grab the images and transfert them instantly in HD format through the HDMI port.
The image transfered is most often only the one in the camera viewer screen, so it's low definition.

If you have already both Canon 7D and the Black Magic Intensity Shuttle, you can already run some tests with the software demo version :
Just right click on the [V] button at the bottom right of the project panel, and check if the Black-Magic Intensity Shuttle is recognized.
Then plug your camera, and tweak its settings to have a HDMI output.
(it's also explained in the last lesson of the PDF manual : http://www.tvpaint.com/v2/content/artic ... hp?lang=en" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)

This HD webcam can be useful for stop-motion :

I use to recommand it.
