Buckley, our Norfolk Terrier, loves other dogs so much, that he will be beside himself with joy having a little sibling dog right in his own house. We are only 2 blocks from the park where we have been taking him for 3 mile rugged hikes since we got him 2.5 years ago....like it's in our back yard. It's the reason we picked this neighborhood.

Having such a humorous, friendly terrier is a little like having a monkey. He is so full of surprise every day, we enjoy him very much. So we will try to get someone who matches him. He is very kind to other dogs, so any dog we get will have a great friend already. He is 3 now and quite the grownup dog. heh heh.

Dogs are very incredible. For years, I really hate them, finding them annoying and smelly. And, finally, when my husband told me "we are in a house so we MUST have a dog", I accepted. And after some researches, we fall in love with "samoyeds".

Now we have a 1-year-old white fluffy ball, talking, barking, whining and smiling all the time, who loves so much people, dogs, cats and any other animals that I really think she has a pink filter in her eyes. You remember Doug in "Up" ? She's the same : "I don't know who you are but I loooove you".

Do you already know what dog you will be getting ? Or you just plan to have a second one and don't know already "who" it will be ? =)

When we get the house settled, we will go to the local pound and rescue somebody. Buckley was a rescue. We got him when he was 8 months old and whoever had him must have treated him with love as he has no issues. Buckley doesn't shed...it would be nice to find another that doesn't. He feels like he is made of velcro and feathers (he is wire-haired). It might be nice to get one that feels like cotton.

@Good thing to take your dog in a pound ! My cats are both "rescue" (one from a pound, the second was found in the street and was only 7 weeks...). As neither my husband nor I have already had a dog, we prefered to have a puppy from a little breeder (only one litter every 2 years). But now we are more familiar with dogs and their psychology / behavior, I'm sure our next doggy will be a rescue =)

It might be nice to get one that feels like cotton.

In fact, I find my dog's hairs so fluffy that I decided to keep them when I brush her. When I will have hairs enough, I plan to contact a "thread-artisan" (you know, like people who cut sheep's wool and turn it into thread to knit). I could have a scarf in dog's wool

And as she's a nordic dog, I'm sure it will keep my throat warm during cold period

Our terrier is more like having a monkey than a dog... full of antics. He shakes his toys so vigorously that when he releases them, they go flying through the air quite high. We never know when we will find one up in the chandelier or up on the kitchen table. We stay alert for incoming missiles. Or he will suddenly dance for a long time on his hind legs, turning in circles. We never taught him this.

He is very calm and friendly, but sometimes he takes our requests as only suggestions, looking at us like his people will get back to our people. These are the very worst things I could say about him.

My dog is still young, so it's normal if she makes some drivels sometimes. "Youth will have its course" as we said. =)
But she is really friendly and want to jump on everybody (men have to be very careful with her when she jumps to say "hello, I looove youuu" ). She is so friendly that she doesn't understand agressivty and wants to play with hissing cats and naughty dogs. I told you, "Pink filter", everything is nice in her mind

She is also untiring (but well, it's a sledge dog, we've chosen our misfortune ). Once, I remember I walked with her during 2 hours and then, let her play with a Belgian shepherd about... let's say... 5 or 6 hours ? At the end, the Belgian shepherd was completely KO and sleeping in his basket. Mine was still awaken, eating the belgian shepherd's bone

Hahaha My dog is like this too, in particular when we are walking with her unleashed. The disgusting stuff on the pavement is always more interesting than "heel !"

you are sure welcome, Sierra! I love these wonderful dogs.. I also love that there is such a thing as Saint Bernard Rescue, because not everyone can handle the big-ness of them and then give them up. Saints have a shorter life-span than small dogs, and really give all they've got to their people.
Agnes is a short-hair, which is the original coat before the monks of Switzerland decided to breed them to Newfoundlands to lengthen the coat - which turned out to be a mistake, because the coat catches and holds snow!
You sound like you love your dog and I think any dog would be so loved in your care, but do consider this breed - I will always have one in my life ( and my house is only 1000 sq.ft)!
