TVPaint 10: first impression
Re: TVPaint 10: first impression
-Is there a way to make a keyboard shortcut for activate/inactivate layer in tvpaint 10?
-In the HSV mode of the color picker, in the lower area, the cursor is shaking in every direction when you want to pick a color. Is this a bug? It doesn't happen in the other modes.
-Is there a way to rearrange your custom panels without using the cut-paste method?

Bug found, the function has disappeared from the shortcut list, thank you =)Joost wrote:-Is there a way to make a keyboard shortcut for activate/inactivate layer in tvpaint 10?
Not really a bug. TVPaint is 8 bits software, so if you have a huge color picker, TVPaint will put the cursor to the "nearest" color.Joost wrote:-In the HSV mode of the color picker, in the lower area, the cursor is shaking in every direction when you want to pick a color. We can probably change the display and avoid this shaking feeling, but in the facts, it won't change the color (look at the HSV values below).
Nope, but it would be nice to be able to drag and drop button as easily as you can do now with images' selectionJoost wrote:-Is there a way to rearrange your custom panels without using the cut-paste method?
Re: TVPaint 10: first impression
Thanks Brett. I did exactly that (generated tvpx for each custom panel, then drag-dropped and positioned them in TVP10... and exported/imported the shortcut-key file) and all seems to be working in TVPaint 10 exactly as it was in TVPaint 9. Phew!idragosani wrote:Svengali, I asked the same question this morning, it was recommended to me to manually export and import keybindings, custom panels, etc from TVP 9.5 rather than just copy the config directory directly.
One exception: I had lots of custom cutbrushes that I'd accumulated over the years in the custom brush bin. I copied the contents of the default "brushes" folder in application data for TVP 9 and pasted into default "brushes" folder in application data for TVP 10. I now have all those brushes available. I was afraid I would have copy them all, one by one!

Don't forget that the v10 will have several improvements during its life (several years ...)Trumpatrick wrote:I don't have tvpaint 10 yet, but I I'd like to chime in on this discussion, because the group function alone would be worth it for me to get the new version, if only it was executed the way Joost described. What I've seen from it so far doesn't look like a big advantage to me. The disadvantage you name is true, but if you've ever worked with photoshop, you would have to agree that this situation hardly occurs, at least for me. On the other hand, scrolling up and down through all your numerous layers, loosing track of them, running out of colors to keep things organized is something that happens all the time. The way the groups are done now, it just feels like a half way solution and it limits your workflow. Using colors for grouping things can be useful, but it doesn't solve the need to be able to keep things organized, it's a nice extra, if you don't mind me saying, but that's it.
As I use to say there was no instances in v8 (only 8.5), no clips in v9 (only in 9.5 )...
Things will be improved step by step.

Thanks for your answers Elodie,
But what I don't understand is why my cursor is not shaking in the color picker hue mode.
And I don't use a very big color picker.
Another bug: When I use the hue mode in the color picker and choose for example a yellow/orange color with the slider on the right, then move the cursor a lot, the color automatically changes to red. and the slider is not moving.
Here is an image. The slider is in the yellow section, but the colors in the picker are red:

Re: TVPaint 10: first impression
Probably because the display has been corrected (look, if you move a little your cursor, the values below does not change). We should do the same for the HSV mode.Joost wrote: But what I don't understand is why my cursor is not shaking in the color picker hue mode.
It's big enough to produce the "bug" =)Joost wrote:And I don't use a very big color picker.
Huh ? can't reproduce that behavior...Joost wrote: Another bug: When I use the hue mode in the color picker and choose for example a yellow/orange color with the slider on the right, then move the cursor a lot, the color automatically changes to red. and the slider is not moving.
What is your OS ? I am on Mac Lion.

Try to move the slider several times and move a lot in the picker area.

it should work fine in the next update.

Yes, I know, but I don't understand why it is still here : I'm currently using a release version, so the same than JoostPeter Wassink wrote:I believe this bug is now fixed Elodie.

Re: TVPaint 10: first impression
I think I found another bug:
There are tho frames with different images on it in the same layer. I select the first frame so it is highlighted, then press the delete button on my keyboard. In the layer I see that the frame is removed, but in my canvas The image of the deleted frame is still there!! Only when I move in the timeline and go back, the frame is really gone.
This is strange...

Re: TVPaint 10: first impression
There is a way to load your old configuration :Svengali wrote:First Impression: TVPaint 10 feels very solid after a 1/2 hour of use - the refinements and enhancements of the interface are very welcome. The brush history is wonderful. I like the sleek, top-down-convertible-mode of the light box!
At the same time I'm having a few questions for the TVPaint team AND/OR seeking advice from any Beta Testers who have been living and working in the new environment for a while:
I feel rather uncomfortable and disoriented as I stumble around exploring this virgin install of TVPaint 10.
My 9.5 working environment has become extremely customized: fifteen or twenty custom panels and dozens of custom buttons that call to George scripts of various kinds. Also, many, many custom brushes. My config.ini file also contains lots and lots of custom parameters, flags etc that service the scripts.
1. Would it be unwise (or worse, damaging) to bring my custom panels (or panels of others) AND the CONFIG.INI file directly over into TVP 10? I'm game to simply try it but worry a bit that I will mess things up... though surely a reinstall could solve any problems. I guess what I am asking is: Would I be better off migrating all of my customized tools and buttons by manually copying over each of the panels, buttons and scripts and testing them one at a time?
2. Same question more or less concerning the shortcut key list. Almost all of my keys have been reassigned, some that just use standard TVPaint shortcut commands but many others which call my own custom buttons stored in various custom panels. If I copy my shortcut key configuration file over from TVP 9.5 into TVP 10... will there be any damaging consequences beyond having a number of key shortcuts that just might not work?
3. Finally, the obvious question about George Scripting. I'm guessing there will be more than a few OLD George scripts that won't work requiring rewrites and updating. Is that the case? I'm also curious about NEW GEORGE COMMANDS and their SYNTAX that will be added to take advantage of the new functionality and features in TVP 10.
I would like to request a copy of a file containing those new commands and syntax (if one exists yet) or will the WIKI be updated?
Thanks, TVPaint Team, for a wonderful update... Svengali
In TVPaint go to "Edit->Preferences->Startup" and select "Startup panel". Now restart TVPaint, you'll see the startup panel.
In this panel click on the name of your current configuration to open the configuration popup and go to "Use configurations of an other version and select your old version ( tvp animation 9.5 ). Then click OK.
