Singing Hedgehogs
Singing Hedgehogs
I just spent 15 minutes with this and I'm still chuckling. This is not only animated so nicely, it's also the first "interactive" youtube-video I see, and it even play with that interactivity! (Be sure to choose the right one as the last.)
Haven't herad of http://birdboxstudio.com before, but I like his style.

Re: Singing Hedgehogs
Brilliant. Just the right measure of cuteness. In the States hedgehogs don't have the standing in folklore (and as part of Christmas season) as Central Europeans have, I suppose due to the fact that they are pretty rare in most places.

I don't know what's about other European countries, but hedgehogs are not very present in the French folklore... but they are on country's roadsPaul Fierlinger wrote:In the States hedgehogs don't have the standing in folklore (and as part of Christmas season) as Central Europeans have, I suppose due to the fact that they are pretty rare in most places.
Re: Singing Hedgehogs
Not really part of christmas, but hedgehogs are indeed part of german folklore. What Americans know as "Tortoise beats Hare" is "Hase und Igel" in Germany, since turtles are much rarer than hedgehogs here: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Der_Hase_und_der_Igel. Additionally, a hedgehog named Mecki is the star of puppet animations and comic strips since 1939: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mecki. Some snippets of that animation here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KrOe_UvL-rU. I remember a photo of my father dressed as one of the characters from the comic strip, for carnival ...
I've just seen each and every bit on http://birdboxstudio.com, it seems that it's a one man business, Ant Blades. Not all gags are that perfect, but his timing is impeccable. Also I like very much how he's able to tell stuff without showing it, best example would be "Guard":where he plays with items going off screen, yet it's perfectly clear what's happening.

Re: Singing Hedgehogs
I agree, he's trying too hard to be funny with "perfect timing" -- in this case I think he was too rushed. But what I tremendously dislike in all animations of this type is when people think they can get away with multitudes of little grunts and sighs and pass it as funny or clever. I have never heard anything that works (the Japanese seem to be particularly enamored with this). The acting never fits the sounds which mix with animation like oil and water.
