auto-save function

Hello,

i am relatively new to TV-Paint ans in search for an auto-save function... I spend quite a long time working on drawings so in order not to lose too much work in the event of a computer-crash or a power outage i wanted to set an auto-save interval, but i could not find one.

Who can help me out?

There is no auto save per se, but something called Auto Backup, which you will find under the General tab in Preferences (bottom of Edit in main menu bar). What this does is that it automatically makes a unique named copy of your project each time you hit the save button. The best safety is to save often. If you want true auto save, join one of the backup clients in the cloud (I use Carbonite) and you will never loose a single save forever. What those services do is they automatically backup and save any file you designate on your computer just minutes after you have changed anything. I keep my auto backup in TVP set to 10 and that gives Carbonite enough time to backup everything I save. I also have a backup plugin by youngmonkey (there are other ones like it around for free, but I never use the automatic save because it might save something too fast to my liking. If you have TVP 10, which comes with a History of every move you make between opening TVP and closing it which allows you to step into the history of a current session and retrieve whatever you regret changing, copy it, and bring it back to the present.

There isn't one like in Premiere but you can set Backup to Auto.
It means that each time you save incremental save backup depending of which you put in at the Edit/Preferences/General/Auto BackUp.

Hello,

I am fairly new at TVPaint but am loving it already. As making drawings or animated cartoons can take quite a long time to complete i have a request for new feature: 'Auto-save', where your work up to that point is automatically saved ecery X minutes in a separate file, not affecting the oringinal file nor the auto-backupfiles so that they all remain intact untill i explicitely save the project myself.
The goal being not to lose any work in the event of a power outage or a system crash. It has already been suggested to me in the forum that this currently does not exist, and it is a feature that would benefit me greatly as i tend to forget to save regularly until it is too late.

I have set the auto-backup already but that still relies on me not forgetting to save regularly. I'll post it at the feature-requests.

I personally prefer a backup system relying on me, f.i. a popup invitation message like "hmmm, time to save now ...? ",
then hit [Enter] to answer "Yes, please do ! ", or [Escape] to answer "Not yet ...",
because I would hate to be brutally interrupted when I'm in an (inspired) drawing session, in a middle of a stroke,
a "Save" delay being from few seconds to several minutes (according to the project's size/length you're working on),
I would prefer to choose my time by myself, so OK for a discreet suggestion, but not for a cutting "hold up".

I agree with ZO; it also helps to take some personal responsibility for keeping track of production. To remember to save often is a good place to start.

Cheap, easy kitchen timer from Amazon - set a countdown time, it beeps when it expires. Click once to turn off the alarm, click again to restart the countdown from the previously established time - then save your work when convenient...

Dear TVPaint,

i just paid 700 Euro for Upgrading to TVPaint 10. But still TVPaint likes to crash for no obvious reason. As long as you cant solve that kind of problems you should definitely implement some sort of Backup. With an upcoming Deadline it hurts so much to loose an hour of work that i couldnt help but curse TVPaint, but still it's the only Program i can achieve the things i do so it's as usual love and hate close together.
