TVP 10 pro shuts down without warning.

Post by Henk Beumers »

Hello everyone.

This morning I had the strangest thing. I was working on a project I saved yesterday, as it ghosted ( faded to transparent ) and than shut itself down without any warning.
The project consists of 3 layers about 12 frames. Nothing special just a few frames for design work. 1280x960. At the moment it happened I just zoomed in by Alt-RMB.
I had some chrashes before but never something like this. Somebody else who had the same experience?

It sounds like one of those once only quirky crashes that never happen again -- or can you replicate it?

you didn't hit shift-Q by mistake? If the current project is saved TVP wil sutdown without warning.

Hello again.

I also hoped it was a one time incident, but it just happened again. Exactly the same way. I enlarged the image with Alt-RMB. RMB on my wacom pen, but I don't think that is relevant.
My OS is Windows 7 pro 64bit. TVPaint 10 pro. Just resently. 4Gb ram, I5 processor. Fast enough nVidea grafics board 1 Gb.
And I didn't hit CntrQ by accident. It would not be a problem than because of the save. I lost a good deal of work so I didn't save.

it sounds like a crash bug. If you can find a way to provoke the crash every time and you can describe it. it is probably easy for the developers to remove it.

Are you sure you have the very latest version ?

There has been a recent bug-fix release which fixes a bug while draging the gradient direction, which looks very similar to your problem.
Quicktime is DEAD. Get over it and move on !

Hi.

I'm not sure. I just inslalled it foor a month or so. I didn't expect updates that soon.
But if it's a bug why doesn't everyone has this problem with a semilar configuration?
I'll check.

This has happened to me as well- I have no idea what caused it... I I think it was caused by a sequence of actions...
Its always a good idea to save, and save and then save again...

Hi.

Sorry, I forgot to answer to the question if I was able to provoke it.
No, I can not provoke it. I'm using Alt-RMB al the time when I'm drawing. So the only thing for me todo is wait for next time, and see if it again happens when I use Alt-RMB. If so, it's something like a pattern. Agree?

Hi, So I'm not the only one. Yes of course is good practice to save during progress, but if I'm in a working mood I tend to forget it for a few hours. ( I got the system to backup now )

with another program? Because TVP's autobackup is not that automatic; it creates a new backup with a unique name each time you save ... manually.

Hi Paul.

You're right. It does'nt.
So I just save every time I think of it untill the habit wears of. It happened before. With Mirage, TVP9.0 , 9.5 and now 10. A few chrashes in short period of time. No reason I can think of and nobody who is able to work it out.
Don't get me wrong. It's not something that keeps happening and I'm very happy with TVPaint. I use it almost every day, But these chrashes once in a while, they eat me. They seem to happen always when you're very bussy and you can't afford to loose the time even if you saved a hour ago.
So, I don't think we're going to find out.

Thanks for your input all. Henk.
