Problems importing .mp4 files in TVP 10
Problems importing .mp4 files in TVP 10
Hi all! I recently bought tvpaint 10 and I'm loving it!
I've been encountering an issue with importing mp4 files into the program. If I drag the file in, I get a windows "beep" error sound, and if I attempt to import the footage any other way nothing happens. I used a friend's tvpaint 9 to try to import and it worked without any problems. Am I doing something wrong? Or maybe there's a plugin issue??
Thanks!
Ian

TVP10 32bits or 64? 32 can handle QT bur 64 can't and apparently never will, according to Apple.

If I am understanding this scenario, MP4 can import on an older 32 bit Mac, in TVP10, using QuickTime. But on Newer 64bit Macs, use TVP9?

Re: Problems importing .mp4 files in TVP 10
I am not familiar with Macs, so all I can say is that TVP 10 32bits can export and import QT (mp4) but TVP 10 64 bit cannot. If I had to import an mp4 into 64 I would have to first convert it to an AVI -- but why bother if 32 can take it? To convert an mp4 to AVI I would use my Vegas but I understand that there are plenty of free converters available on the Web.

Re: Problems importing .mp4 files in TVP 10
I don't think TVP10 on OS X is 64 bits yet... I had a similar problem on Linux with importing until I realized I had some missing codec libraries (libavformat/libavcodec), and I could import everything (even QuickTime) after that, but I don't think libavcodec/format are used are used on OS X. But might be a similar issue, missing or outdated codec libraries or TVP is unable to find them.

TVP 10 Mac-64 isn't released yet but it's announced (Elodie mentioned that in Dec). I had no problems on OS-Lion to import mp4 files from my students, which came from Mac and Win.
Ian can you give more accurate informations about your .mp4 files by looking at their info-window ? (And - are you on Win or Mac ?)

Re: Problems importing .mp4 files in TVP 10
Apple does not support Quicktime anymore. So, MP4 and MOV formats work on 32bit software, but not on 64 bit software, Windows and Mac.
If you are running a 32bit TVPaint (whatever if your computer is a 32 or 64bit), you should be able to open a MP4 file.
Ian, I advise you to convert your MP4 in AVI to use it or install TVPaint Animation 10 in 32 bit =)

I'm really confused with this topic. I searched articles as well as Apple's own website, only to find that:Apple does not support Quicktime anymore.
- Quicktime is still part of Mac OSX (as Version X, although it's possible to install QT 7 Player on Lion)
- Final Cut exports to Quicktime
- Final Cut Pro X requires a 64bit Mac.
Is ist possible that you're referring to Quicktime for Windows only?

Vegas also doesn't export or import QT's in 64 bits so it might be just Apple's In Your Face, PC thing.

QT X is really just a player, nothing more (well, not even a full player, just some building blocks to build a player).slowtiger wrote:I'm really confused with this topic. I searched articles as well as Apple's own website, only to find that:

Who knows what they can do ? Do you remember some 7 or 8 years ago when M$ was using some unpublished parts of Win to make things the competition couldn't do ?slowtiger wrote: - Final Cut exports to Quicktime

But QT hasn't long to live (I mean the library for building apps, the file format will probably survive for several years).
The replacement lib is already here, full of bugs and very limited for now, and it's called AVFoundation.
Quicktime is DEAD. Get over it and move on !

OK, everybody! this thread is fascinating - and a tad confusing to the newbie, here, so I have to ask a "bottoms up" question:
I am ordering TVP Pro10 today "tech support willing".... and need to know this:
Will I have any trouble loading it
on my 64 bit Mac Book Pro i7?
on my 32 bit iMac core duo?
Thanks, you all!
