Uhm, TVP is honest on their website about which features work in which version, so it's up to you to buy what you want, you just need to read before you buy.
TVP 10.0.18 and 11.0 MacPro Quadcore 3GHz 16GB OS 10.6.8 Quicktime 7.6.6
TVP 11.0 and 11.7 MacPro 12core 3GHz 32GB OS 10.11 Quicktime 10.7.3
TVP 11.7 Mac Mini M2pro 32GB OS 13.5

I've seen several apps (including Apple Quicktime) that include all of the options and features, but some are greyed out based on the license you've purchased. I think the idea is that if you get the license for the Pro version, those extra features are unlocked, no need to re-install the application all over again. That way only one application needs to be supported rather than multiple versions. I assume, at least, that's how TVP also works.

This is just what I had in mind when I had mentioned media players. This is quite common practice across the board in Internet and retail commerce I believe, and the whole issue is being blown out of proportion in this thread -- indeed, somewhat annoying, but all good advertising is informative, which is just the case here. Shouldn't this mild form of advertising be all the more tolerable within an application which is daily put into the service of creating advertisements?

Elodie wrote:Well, in our defense, I would say there are (from memory) only two places where you can see those famous [Pro] : in the layer blending modes and in the FX stack.

When you look once at the layer blending modes with the Standard Edition, you know there is no need to look several time, as the features proposed won't change (they will stay in grey).

I agree it is maybe more annoying when using the FX Stack (as there is FX you can use and some other you can't) but well... the software is the only free place where we can advertise a little about the Professional Edition...
I agree, maybe this is not the best way to proceed, but heh ! would you prefer a random pop-saying "buy the Pro !" (as it is the case in many other software) or worst, let you click on the feature and then, open a window saying "Buy Pro" ?
I think that would be more annoying than few grey lines
annudsa wrote:and Elodie,
i expected a bit more of a serious answer..to be honest
Dear Annudsa,

Welcome on the TVPaint board. There are a lot of comment for this first post.

Elodie explained it well and seriously.

I would just say that we don't like to complain, so she didn't explain how expensive could be a single page in the Annecy festival program or in other famous Animation reviews : sometimes it could be up to the price of 4 or 5 Professionnal Edition of TVPaint Animation.

So yes, our software is maybe the only place where we can freely advertise our work.

But don't misunderstand us :
This way to advertise the Professionnal Edition is not wanted to be intrusive, but is wanted to be informative.
It never prevent you to work. It does not stop you against your will, during a drawing, nor an animation playback or nor an FX calculation ...
When you select a feature from the Professionnal Edition, you are not automatically redirected to our webpage to purchase it ...
When opening the software, you are not automatically asked to purchase the Professionnal Edition ...
etc ... (look at other software ...)

In the same logic :
We even do our best to prevent the software to automatically search the updates on the website, because all the firewall warnings are annoying, and looking on the website would slow down the software (drawing, playback, etc ...). The same reason explains why there is no auto-backup* option ...
(*ok we will do something, work in progress)
We don't send any newsletter when there is nothing to say ...
etc ...

Nevertheless Annudsa, you are right about the camera tool :
This is the only one popup appearing saying you don't have the Professionnal Edition. Ok, the icon should be greyed instead.

I can't find the topic because I think it's about 4 years old and I don't find any key word linked to it, but this was a request from users :
Being able to know in the Standard Edition what was in the Professionnal Edition.
We did our best. ok, we will improve it as we use to do with everything everyday.

Annudsa, I really hope you will continue to post in this forum and experience our responsivity about the software features and improvements.
That's the most important IMO. :)

Well, I agree with you.
But even if Elodie did it very well, I wanted to reply myself and add my vote to her post.

Oddly enough, users of TVPA 10, the Professional version, also see the same popup (I think it's the same) which confused me more than a little bit the first time it appeared. :?

I think there is an extra value that new users bring to the table - fresh eyes and untempered feedback which can be very helpful.

Jeepers! You're right. Well, it's like owning a Ford and still having to watch Ford ads -- you just don't see any of the stuff (unless you're new to it) Annudsa, there's hope -- soon you won't even see any of this stuff, even after you buy into it!

I remember seeing that before, but never thought much of it, beyond thinking it was to make users of the Pro version feel special 8)
