Drude Mangaard's animations

Post by drude »

This graduation film 'Væsen' is also made with tvpaint :) i worked on it in collaboration with 5 of my classmates.
compositing is done in after effects, and the backgrounds are done with pencil on paper followed by colouring in photoshop.
we added an overall texture in AE, but all animation has an individual texture layer as well, which is also done in tvpaint.

and some of the previous graduation films from my school is also made with TVpaint, which you might or might not have seen already. Captain Awesome, (as Ercan posted last year i see), and Leitmotif, Salma, Vegeterrible, Draw Poker and Pig Me. And probably a lot more - i think most of our 2D graduation films are made with TVpaint, actually.. if you want to add films to the list! :)

anyway, there is also this one, 'Solstice' which is done by Roland Seer.

i hope the links work! :)

Wow, I love it! Very good visual design, and really love the 70s prog rock music vibe, too. Excellent job!

The "Solstice" one is an interesting blend of styles, hand-drawn, cutout and CG... very imaginative

Thanks everyone! :D it is so nice to hear that we got some of our inspirations communicated out to the viewer as well as we hoped! :)

haha, thanks Elodie! that is very sweet of you :) but i didn't make Væsen alone, and i did not direct it either, and i have nothing to do with Roland's film other than i am a big fan and that i know him - and that is why i know a bit about the process of making Solstice. All the backgrounds are built as models and then photographed/filmed.

it is important to me to state the credits of my dear co-workers on VÆSEN. The team was:
Adrian Dexter, Birk Von Brockdorff, Arnold Bagasha, Mikkel Vedel Petersen and Jody Ghani (and me).

we also made a blog with some progress work as we made the film - it can be found on this link:

The background art on this is just stunning, too. Really, everyone on this project did a fantastic job! I hope to see more of your work (inclusive of everyone on your team). The music stood out to me also. The animation I see coming out of Europe these days is way beyond what the big budget blockbusters from Hollywood are doing.
