Error Scanning
Error Scanning
I'm having problems scanning from a Brother MFC-8490CW scanner, as soon as I go into Twain->Aquire or Twain->Select I get a small popup that just says twain error.
This is on a windows 7 with version 10.0.2 of TVP. I know the scanner works I use it all the time with other software. I've already tried to update the scanner driver but that didn't seem to change anything.
Thanks.

Hello mjomphe,
I suggest you to update your TVPaint license. You can dowload it free at this address : http://www.tvpaint.com/v2/content/artic ... update.php
You just have to give your lock code, unlock code, your name , your platform and the architecture
Tell us if your problem still persist =)

Ok, I just upgraded to 10.0.5 but it doesn't seem to have helped, I still get the same message.
Re: Error Scanning
Are you using the 64bits version of TVPA ?
Because TWAIN doesn't work in 64bits.

Re: Error Scanning
yes, I've got the 64 bit version, is there a workaround for that ? How do you scan from the 64 bit version ?
Re: Error Scanning
TWAIN just doesn't work in 64bits, in ANY application.
You have to either use the 32bits version of TVPA, at least to scan, or use the software provided by the manufacturer of your scanner (which is 32bits), save the scanned images somewhere, and then import them into TVPA.
This is a problem with every 64bits application, until there is either a 64bits version of TWAIN, or a replacement for TWAIN (and scanner manufacturers update their drivers).
The same is true for Quicktime, which, too, is 32bits only.

Re: Error Scanning
Ok, I'll try it that way, Thanks.
Re: Error Scanning
Oh, I forgot to say that you can install both the 32bits and 64bits of TVPA on the same computer without ill effetcs.
This makes it easier to switch between the two.

Re: Error Scanning
That works great but when I scan It brings everything in portrait mode, I don't see any options to rotate the images. Is there an option somewhere for that?

Try Project menu ---> Modify Project --- Rotation .mjomphe wrote:That works great but when I scan It brings everything in portrait mode, I don't see any options to rotate the images. Is there an option somewhere for that?
The other solution would be to Select All images on the timeline (Ctrl-A) and then type into the Transform Tool angle parameters to rotate the image(s) to the correct orientation. Hit Return to apply to all selected images.
The Brother MFC- line are the least expensive 11" x 17" size scanners available , but the Brother scanner drivers leave much to be desired. My general workaround for dealing with the lousy Brother scanner drivers (whether in 32 bit or 64bit) is just to skip the direct acquire into TVPaint and instead scan my drawings using a scanning software called VueScan which has many more options for scanning. Scan all drawings in VueScan with a logical naming sequence (like A_0001.jpg, A_0002.jpg, A_0003.jpg, A_0004.jpg, A_0005.jpg, etc. ) , and then import them into TVPaint from File Menu --> OPEN . You can rotate the image to correct orientation in the VueScan interface , but if you forget to do so for some reason you also have the Rotate option in the TVPaint Import window.

Perfect, thanks for all the help.

Re: Error Scanning
This is true. Same problem for Photoshop. Adobe no longer supports TWAIN for 64 bit mode and if you go to Adobe Support site they actually recommend using VueScan for scanning and then import to Photoshop CS5.ematecki wrote:TWAIN just doesn't work in 64bits, in ANY application.
