Thanks, Peter; great find! I was hoping the market economy would bring something like this out. I just might go for it but two things make me think a bit cautiously: the battery in the pen and the "toothy" tablet surface. I wonder if placing a Wacom overlay would fix that.
EDIT: After having a closer look on their website I see that the 12x9 inch one has no buttons and none of them have a touch ring. It also seems that the pen isn't a two way rocker switch. There is no mention of having the capability of creating individual settings for a variety of software. But this is something I will be definitively recommending to students on a low budget.

This one has "8 programmable hot keys" , but not sure if it allows individual programs to have their own settings (one set for TVPaint, another set for PS, another set for Flash, whatever ...) -

The price is right. I may just have to get one to play around with . If it works well this would be a good alternative for students on a limited budget.

But it's not large enough for my needs and their largest one has no buttons. I think they must be good beginner tablets and you probably get what you pay for. I like the way the Wacom tablets work and don't mind their price anymore, which has come down with 4L -- I just detest their software, which I have learned over the years to live with, but not happily. These tablets I imagine must have very limited drivers without the more expensive headaches.

I never saw or even tried it.

but when using a stylus with battery, you have to be careful if the battery is at the top of the stylus (near the eraser) or at the bottom (near the tip). The feeling is really different, in terms of weight.
