Re: buy
This is hard to judge without actually seeing the project. Keep in mind that TVP 10 can hold several projects at the same time, in which case they are referred to as clips and scenes within a single project. You can play these either individually or all at once, as if they were laid out on a single timeline, such as an NLE. I think it would be possible to have a single large project divided into such segments so that you could work on one segment at a time or play them all back together, perhaps with some slowdown becoming evident in the process.

Re: buy
its just, i had a friend, he had worked with tvp8. he had splited his project in many projects. one project had the size of 2-3 gb. the second 1gb. if he wanted to open the two projects at the same time, tvp8 give the message: not enough memory. i think, that means, that tvp has a maximum size of 3 gb for two projects, and when the two projects togeter are bigger than 3 gb, he cannot open.
i just want to know, if in tvp10 this can happen, too.

Re: buy
TVP 10 is far advanced from 8 and I think your friend is referring to having two projects opened at the same time, which is not the same as what I was describing. Besides, I don't remember ever having seen the popup message you describe in TVP -- are you sure this is not a Windows message? I have had as many as 6 or seven TVP projects opened at the same time without experiencing any trouble.
BTW, I was just checking on my list of projects and I really have to wonder about making a film with so many large projects. I am working now on a feature film with many over sized projects because much of the action happens on water with constant camera motions. This means that every pixel on the screen is in a constant state of replacement. These scenes not only play back a perfect speeds, including sound tracks and as many as 25 to 30 layers of color, but I also have never seen the warning you mentioned.
My largest projects are one to 1.5 GB and those are far apart in a list of hundreds of scenes, all of which are way under 1 GB. So this makes me wonder if you are not overdoing something in your setup that could be just as well (or better!) handled at smaller sizes. Could you upload here an example or two so we could see what you are talking about?

Re: buy
Unfortunately I cannot show anything, because that was not my work. i just remember, i just remember that he has complained about not enough memoryor something like this. but what does you mean, if you say:" I think your friend is referring to having two projects opened at the same time, which is not the same as what I was describing."
What does you mean with a scene?is a scene a project? maybe i missunderstood something.

Re: buy
We are talking just about semantics here; words that help with file management, not words that represent specific measurements of quantity. In TVP10 You have a system of tabs and sub tabs to help with the distribution of files within a single project. A project thus may consist of several scenes and each scene may be a collection of several clips. You can work on only one clip at a time if you need to have available to you all the layers that clip is made of while you are working with it, the other clips (scenes and clips) within this single project are laying for all practical purposes dormant. Only when you switch from the Timeline tab to the Project tab, do you bring to life all clips at once which can then be played back as a single project (and here you might experience some slowdown if you have overextended the computing limits of your machine).
Besides this, you can have a completely separate project opened with scenes and clips of its own (your friends case). If for instance you need to incorporate a long background within your current, standard size project, you can combine these too variables by opening two projects and accessing one with the other; a long background (one project) panning under the animation of a TV size project holding your animation, for instance.
TVP 10's Project with tabs of sub projects (clips and scenes) also lets you create storyboards which you can progressively expand into animatics, scenes and clips. It's a very ingenious system that allows you to have many scenes nested within a single project which up until now could exist only as separate projects to be opened individually.

Re: buy
I think this is also a limitation of the 32-bit platform on that release. As Paul indicated, TVP 10 can handle more complex projects now (a "master" project that contains "sub-projects" of individual scenes and clips), and TVP, I think, makes better use of swap memory (virtual memory). This is most definitely handled better on a 64-bit machine with more than 4GB of RAM.flux wrote:its just, i had a friend, he had worked with tvp8. he had splited his project in many projects. one project had the size of 2-3 gb. the second 1gb. if he wanted to open the two projects at the same time, tvp8 give the message: not enough memory. i think, that means, that tvp has a maximum size of 3 gb for two projects, and when the two projects togeter are bigger than 3 gb, he cannot open.

Re: buy
and that is the advantage of tvp10. I dont have to make individual Projecte, like in tvp8. Because tvp8 didnt have the function with the clip, is it right. i opend the trial version of tvp10.where is the difference between new scene and new clip. sorry that I ask so much, but I want understand the programm and his advantages.

Re: buy
The Hollywood convention is followed here -- classical animators always had this wrong and must adapt (my case). A scene is made of a number of shots, such as the Kitchen Scene is a composite of all the takes shot in the kitchen at a particular time within a plot. For better file management, we can now divide our stories following this paradigm. We just call shots "clips" for obvious reasons.

Re: buy
No one knows the answer to that question; not even the development team. There is no TVP 11 even on the horizon and no one standing on the very edge of the sea can see what's over the horizon.

Re: buy
TVP10 just came out so it will be a while before TVP11 is available. They usually give pretty good discounts if you pre-order the upgrade, but I can't say what that would be. All of the *updates* to TVP10 are free, which is cool, they sometimes have new features included in updates.
