Brush in rotated view

Post by Johannes »

Hello TvPaint,

i have a problem with a brush i made. It's an animated brush, a scan of a real pen-stroke. The angle is set to direction and it works fine except when i rotate the view. It would be great if someone can tell me how to fix this issue. When i turn my cintiq the Pen-Cursor-Offset is bigger so i'd like to rotate the view instead of the cintiq.
The same brush drawn in different rotated views.

Ctrl + Alt + Left mouse button will do this.

Oh sorry i didnt tell the problem itself. I know how to rotate the view but when i do, the brush is not working the way i want it to. That's what the attachement shows.

hello Johannes,

are you running a V.10.0.x ?
if so, in the Tool : CustomBrush panel, you can try to check/uncheck the "Warp" button option,
one of the two options should keep your custombrush unchanged, regardless the view setting.
(I hope so ...) :)

Can you post your brush in .tvpx format ?

That would help to answer you.

Warp is not working, i need a consistent brush size.

I think theproblem is that the angle is linked to the direction of the stroke. The brush is made of a scan of a real pen stroke. When i do a stroke in TVpaint this stroke is rebuilds that scan. I had had a hard time to figure out the stepping and opacity of each brush part so that in the end the virtual stroke looks like the real stroke. When i turn the view virtually the underlaying brush animation is played backwards and the parts do not fit.

I think a solution would be to consider the angle of the view rotation when calculating the direction-property.

Viele Grüße,

Johannes.

That's a very nice brush, Johannes!
Played around with it and I'm getting the same results as you with a rotated canvas on an intous4, which is strange.

If you guys ever get this brush fixed please share it with us because this one is a keeper!

Hi Johannes,

yes, it's a very nice brush! I tested it and didn't got any problems with the canvas rotation.

In your screenshot you 've changed the rotation of the Project Window, but I'm curious, what happens when you change the direction of the stroke, Animark?
If you draw a stroke from left to right (or right to left) do you get a broader-looking stroke like you're supposed to?

From what I see, the width and length of the brush are not the same, so it explains the thickness of the brush is not the same depending on the stylus angle.

The project window angle never change any stroke.

It's not supposed to, I agree. But the problem here is it does seem to influence the stoke: it changes the angle of the brush. Furthermore it only seems to do so in TVP 10.

good point Sewie :

It might occur only if the "Warp" option is checked. If not, there should be no problem.

OK, I tried with drawing circles clock- and counter clockwise and changed the canvas in steps of 45 degrees. Again, no problem. Yes, the brush itself is a little bit different depending on where the brush animation starts, but I am not able to reproduce the behavior from the first jpg in this thread.

Edit: Yes, it seems to be a TVPaint 10 problem. I could test that later at home ...

I created this brush when i was using TvPaint 9.5.xxx I hope i don't have to rebuild it -.- The thickness variations are in the stroke itself as it is based on a real pen-stroke. Thanks for testing! Glad you like the brush.

I made a test at home, where my 10.0.7 is and can confirm the misbehavior.
