I wonder what it takes, developer-wise, to make it so that we can select whatever focus of the same frame we want in those screens. This sounds very useful indeed. You should enter this into the New Features Request thread.
what do you mean by same focus?
that they're all canvasses and not interchangable with xheet, timeline and other?

I think I already made a similar request ( regarding a User interface overhaul)

viewtopic.php?f=21&t=4461" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I'm not sure
but perhaps you get a different view/idea according to which explanation you read (this one vs the one in the other thread)

Well, I can open a second window which will be exactly the same as the one I am drawing on, but extremely zoomed in. I keep the second one opened and zoomed out -- so the focus is on the same place. If I had the Project tab in one window and the timeline tab in the other, the focus is in two different places, but on the same frame. Then I could be creating the panels of the storyboard in one window while switching to the other where I could be adding layers. Isn't this what you were describing?

I was a bit confused by how you worded it and I just wanted to make sure, sorry.
But yes,that is what I mean. :)

and everything should be dockable and undockable as you see fit. For example the effects when I use them now, often they're in the way of where I need to look. If you could dock them it wouldn't stand in the way anymore.

incidently "new zoom windows" is already a pretty fine feature :D

Yep, the new zoom windows are great and actually the Navigator Panel is the same beast.

ok, old thread, but i'd like to pipe in somewhere on the issue of keeping the 'image' layer- i like 'em! i like being able to draw on a layer wherever i am without it breaking into a new instance. usually for reference drawings and notes that refer to the animation i'm working on in another layer.

Thats a good point. And I think if an image is set to "hold", we should be able to draw on it anywhere on the timeline, even if the image doesn't stretch to that frame.
I don't know though how it is in TVP 10 - did it change?

You can draw in an anim layer the same way as an image layer as long as you uncheck auto create instance/auto break instance, under the image tab in the menu bar at the top.

i see- so instead of there being dedicated image layer buttons, one could just uncheck on the rarer occasions of needing a 'no break' function, then returning the pref to a checked status for the more commonly used 'break' function.

however, i did find myself using the 'anim to image layer' button in the animator panel a lot in tvp8, i'll see how much i miss it now in tvp10 (i think it's removed but i'm still exploring the new features and placements).

Thats in TVP 10? Hmmm... but does it mean that I have to check/uncheck this option every time I switch layers??? Then it sounds like a much more cumbersome solution...

It's a choice more than a solution. It's the way of life in this software, where almost everyone's desire is answered. :|

Almost. I'm still struck with the problem of printing money, although the problem of consecutive numbers works nicely in TVP ...
TVP 10.0.18 and 11.0 MacPro Quadcore 3GHz 16GB OS 10.6.8 Quicktime 7.6.6
TVP 11.0 and 11.7 MacPro 12core 3GHz 32GB OS 10.11 Quicktime 10.7.3
