Demo exe detected as a virus?

Post by Atomsk »

Hello,

I just downloaded the trial version of TVPaint, because I am interested in purchasing and wanted to try it first. However, as soon as the download finished, my anti-virus informed me the .exe was unsafe and auto-removed it from my PC. Now, I figure my anti-virus is simply being overprotective and there isn't anything wrong with the demo exe, but still, I wanted to double check and ask if this is a common problem or if this is strange? I've had my anti-virus warn me of unsafe files before, but this is the first time its actually gone and removed the file like that, so I can't help but be slightly cautious that it might have actually caught something. I'm eager to try out the program, so I appreciate any information you can provide on this.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Atomsk,

If you downloaded the demo version from the TVPaint website, don't worry : our .exe files are safe for your computer. Maybe look at your Aniti-virus settings and configure it in order to be sure it asks you "should I remove this ifle ?" instead of doing it without your approval.

My avast! was doing the same to me and by turning down the alert setting a notch the annoyance went away with no ill effects. I did this weeks or even months ago so I am certain it's OK to tame avast! a bit.

Hello,

Thank you your response, I am using Norton. I toned down the security features, which allowed me to download the .exe, but now I get this error when I try to install it:

I've tried re-downloading it, but that didn't help. I'm on Windows 7 64bit, if that helps at all. I should mention that even though Norton allowed me to download the exe when I toned it down, it still warned me against installing it, which again is something I've never seen Norton do before, strange.

I appreciate any help you can provide, thanks!

I would suggest either downloading on another machine and copying over, or disabling your anti-virus software temporarily when you download it (but then turn it back on). It may be tampering with the executable and causing a corruption.

Or, since you are just trying out TVPaint, you could download the 32bit version and install it in the Program Files(x86) folder. I've DLed and installed a number of TVP 32bit updates under Norton with no problem... under Windows XP on one machine and Windows 7 on another.
