TVP 10 "Twain Error"

Post by Chris Cormier »

Hello everyone. I can't seem to get TVP 10 to see my scanner (Fujitsu fi-5530c). I have used this scanner with TVPaint 9.5 without any problems, but when I try to access it in TVP 10 all I get is "Twain Error."

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the scanner driver, but I still get the same error. Windows sees the scanner just fine, and like I said, TVP 9.5 also sees it and works well with it. I'm at a bit of a loss, and without more of a detailed error, I'm not really sure how to even trouble shoot this. Maybe reinstall TVP 10?

Any ideas?

Well, I've uninstalled and reinstalled TVP 10 and the scanner driver, and I still get the same error.

I am using Windows 7 64 bit, by the way.

Does anyone have any advice? Something else I should try? I'm stuck. :S

when I need to scan, I start (via a multiboot startup) in my old Win32bit OS,
... too much problems with (old) external devices in 64bit systems.

just my 2 cts.

I am guessing you have a 32-bit TWAIN driver and you are using 64-bit TVPaint. TVPaint 9.5 was 32-bit only (except on Linux), which is probably why it worked. You should see if your scanner has a 64-bit driver for it.

It is a 32-bit/64-bit driver. Just to be sure, I searched the Fujitsu site for a 64-bit driver, re-downloaded and re-installed it (after taking the steps to uninstall the old one first, of course). I am still having the same problem. Maybe I should try installing the 32-bit version of TVP? It would be a shame to have to use the 32-bit version, but TVP is pretty robust, so maybe I wouldn't notice a difference in performance? I'm not sure what else to do.

You can have both versions installed at the same, many people do it.

In 64 bits twain doesn't work, and there is no quicktime.

So people use the 32 bits version when they need these, and the 64 bits version for everything else.
Quicktime is DEAD. Get over it and move on !

You can also scan your images via the software from your scanner, then import the image sequence in TVPaint.

Yes, this did the trick! Thanks so much, ematecki, and everyone who took the time to reply. Maybe the twain issue in the 64-bit version will be fixed in a software update down the road, but for now at least I can work! :)
