animbrush skips a drawing

Post by ryberg »

I recently come across a weird bug, at least I think it's a bug.

My animbrushes skip a drawing each time I paint. So if I have an animbrush with 5 drawings, 1 2 3 4 5, and it's set on 1, I paint and put down what should be 1, but instead number 2 has been stamped and animbrush goes to number 3.
Restarting TVpaint resolve the issue but it returns very soon.

Any one else experienced this?

it may be related to a faulty wacom pen, I'll need to try out another pen to see if that's the cause.

Also drawing with an animbrush while holding down ctrl deliver quite random stamps from the brush. Some frames have a single stamp, as they should, others get 2 or 3.

It's not a bug :
Dont use the "Stroke" tool, use the "Dot" tool instead.

Hi Ryberg,

deactivate "line smoothing". Maybe this helps and if so, it's an older bug I found 2 years ago ...

oh yeah, I can see how line smoothing could be the cause for this, I'll try it out when I get back at the studio on Monday.

Thanks a lot Animark.

line smoothing is the cause for this skip-a-frame bug just like you said Animark.

A while ago I posted a button/script (called StepDraw) that lets you use a shortcut key to cycle step animbrush... so that the brush frame and the layer frame can be manually advanced in single steps. I haven't tested it lately but it might be a temporary solution to the skipping problem you are having.

What I like about the StepDraw button is it lets you turn on light-table and precisely position and auto-advance each animbrush frame relative to the next layer frame (instead of the streaming flow of animbrush frames that spray out when the Control Key is depressed and the stylus tip is depressed.)

Sven

StepDraw button/script for download.

edit: I just tested the StepDraw button/script and it still works as intended in TVPaint 10.

Be sure to assign the button to a shortcut key so you can synchronously step it frame by frame along with the layer frames. You can also press and hold down the shortcut key and apply the cycling stream of animbrush frames over multiple frames of the current layer... And the animbrush frame skipping doesn't happen.

Note that you DON'T AND SHOULD NOT PRESS the stylus point to the tablet, instead just hover and move the stylus to guide the placement of the streaming animbrush frames .
