To Put Colors e 1° Pre-Trailer cartoon link

Post by ebphoto »

Hello everyone of TVP forum!
I need help about to put color for my cartoon.
Well, i use for putting color a layer under the drawing layer, it's ok.
I use the Gap closer, the Range, smooth ecc when i put color with floodfill. Ok it's help me mainly to put color in big areas but after i need to use Pen Brush for obtain to fill the detailed small areas between the color 'n the drawing.
It's horrible situation because it's request too much time to spend: (sometime days 'n days of time it's requested).
It's there some quick way that allows to obtain excellent result??

This is a link about the Pre-Trailer of my short 2d, it's a Go Nagay copyright 'n it's my 1° (in better way) animation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAajodbPFWo" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It is common to manually fill the gaps left after filling areas with the fill tool. I use a broad brush set to behind so I don't accidentially draw over already filled areas. Try this, it's fast enough for me.

Looking at your pre-trailer I can't see that you use an overabundance of frames and most seem to be cycles anyway; how much work can that be to fill in a few gaps? Days and days you say?

Hi ebphoto,

I agree with Slowtiger and Paul. A long time ago I worked a lot with Animo and there were some fantastic tools for coloring as fast as you can. But there is nothing comparable in TVPaint, maybe cause of Animos concept of mixing bitmap and vector based drawings. But that's another story ...

Maybe I have a little hint that helps a little. Before you start to color your drawing you could fill the hole figure with a dark color (maybe black) on an extra layer.
1. Select the hole character using the magic wand outside the drawing.
2. Then invert the selection and fill it black on an extra layer under your line and color layers.
3. Start to color the character as you did before.

You could also color first and make the extra black layer as the last step. However, it prevents your drawing from having little transparent gaps where you would see the bg shining through. OK, it's a dirty and rough trick, but maybe it meets your requirements.

Hi PAUL,
well... yes there is in my pre-trailer the cicles or loops if u prefer. I don't think it's too bad to use loops if they're r used when it's seems to need 4 the story of cartoon ;)
The cartoon is made in 24 fps. All the cartoon is almost 2 minutes running. The preTrailer is a preview of the trailer; it's can't be all the cartoon, i can't burn all strategic ideas for cartoon.
Ok, i'm a slow when i use computer, i'm a new user about TVPaint software, my bamboo tablet not has the weel 'n this is my 1° experiment that allows me to express my self doing cartoon.
It's the 1° time that i need to fill the gaps for drawings using a software, i'm not a cartoonist, i'm a pro photographer that hate drawings but loves to see his own drawings that moves.
...I hate COLOR Gaps near to Drawings, it's like to do same drawings one more time Paul..

ANIMARK Thanx for your suggestion, i really appreciated!

What version of TVP are you using? You say 9.5 but there are more digits, like this: 9.5.xx. What are the last 2 digits?

ok. WELL THEN YOU ARE FINE AND MAKE SURE YOU KEEP IT UPDATED BECAUSE THERE ARE IMPROVEMENTS RELEASED ALL THE TIME AND USUALLY THEY ARE FREE. Ooops, sorry for locked caps. So I imagine you've played around with the Gap closer, Expand, and Range values in Filling Shape panel and if you have reached the optimal results (the smallest unfilled gaps) then there is nothing left for you but retouch these manually. This what an animator's day is made of; filling in tiny spaces and drawing a lot. It's nice work if you can get it. :D

Hi Paul, thanx the Update suggestion! If u say that is necessary i will do it. Mh..how to know what kind of updates r for free? From software takin' a look to menu i see Help-Updates, if the update starts when i push on Update 'n it's run the download
it means it's free?
I dunno what r locked caps Paul.
Yes i played a lil around the Gap close ecc.. i know that animators doing the filling gaps also...the problem is in my mind 'cose drawing e painting was my 1° love since i was a lil child... now i hate it but i love to see my draws that lives in tvpaint :D
However, after all i must re-play around the gap closer, range ecc. If i remember well there is in TVP a tool.. Auto Paint... it's not good for filling?...

If it doesn't ask you for your credit card number :)

More seriously, all updates you can download within TVPaint's menu "Help > Check for updates..." are free.
