wacom settings awkwardness

Post by skomdra »

Hi,
I don't know if anyone has the same problem, but here it is: my Wacom setup is designed for my style of working, and I believe I am not exception. So, in Wacom setup under functions I have put what I need and did as it's clear that I relate this functions with TVP10

but then when I work, for some strange reason my tablet sometimes forgets that I am in TVP. And yes, I am not clicking around, I am simply drawing, flipping trough images, and BANG, something weird happens, than again, and, surprise, I notice on my tablet wrong shortcuts. So, what should I do? Maybe I should put all my custom shortcuts on All Other, and forget the shortcuts when in other programs... I wonder is it some sort of bug of TVP, or Wacom Driver, or my system?

I am very familiar with this WACOMmadness. It happens all the time. But first, I notice you have two TVP icons there. Is there a reason for this? Do you have another version of TVP with different settings?

Then I notice that you do not have the latest version of wacom's driver, which is 6.3.5-3.
BTW, have you backed up your settings in the Tablet Preference File Utility? If not, do so. It'll save you a lot of frustration in the future.

But basically, when you get this switching about of settings, it is usually because you made two TVP settings. Click on the little plus symbol on the very right of the icons and delete any superfluous TVPs in there.

I suggest that you backup your settings, then uninstall WACOM, restart your computer, download the update driver, install, restart your computer again, recover your settings from the utility (they should be saved even after uninstalling and reinstalling the driver).

Hm... lot of work for my fellow technicians here ;) Thank you for noticing the driver issue, and sure, I will ask them, if it helps... the two icons are because I still kept the 9.5 installed just to be sure nothing goes wrong with the film and I started to use 10 recently. And surprise surprise, wacom doesn't recognize that this is the same application, maybe due to the fact that it isn't, so the only solution was to make new settings for the new app which are the same. Anyway, backing up addition was big relief in Wacom tools, we have to admit them that. And beautiful hardware, not to forget.

Yes, the hardware is wonderful but the software they never got right. It took years for them to finally let us backup our settings. Another thing to be prepared for is that the driver will one day just disappear. It often happens when you install some new software or update the graphics card.

Or you will perhaps reboot the computer for a routine reason and a popup will inform you that the Wacom driver is not present. The best is to first try and reboot the system again, which often helps. But if it won't it is best to uninstall Wacom before you reinstall it. It'll work without doing that, but soon you may loose the driver again. It's maddening. We have learned from experience that the best thing to do is to reboot after uninstalling and reboot again after installing. Wacom loves reboots.

And you are not the only one to have a such problem : "Wacom driver not present".
Just imagine it in a school with 100 computers ...
