"Painting" to select?

Is there a way in TVP to use a brush to "paint" your selection? Sometimes clicking and dragging a lasso is more difficult than painting and erasing an area until you have the selection just right. Several programs like Photoshop and Paint Tool SAI have "Selectbrush" or Quick-Mask capabilities, so you can paint in your selection and then turn it into the "marching ants" when you're done.

Is there a way to do this in TVP?

Just create a new layer and paint with the brushes of your choice, then set this layer to "stencil" and work in another layer.
