best way to change 24 to 25 fps

Post by kariP »

I made my animation (8min) with 24 fps.
Now I'll have to start burning it to DVD's for festivalpreviews mostly in Europe, but DVD's only take in 25 fps on PAL.

I already have a blu-ray image of the project as 24 fps, and that should work all over. Correct?

If I want to make another version of the film as 25 fps, what is the best way:
Import it from tvp as 25 fps, and try to match the sound in premiere?
Convert a duplicate project to 25 fps with time interpolation?

Is it possible to retain the length, or is the loss of time unavoidable?

I should've done the film in 25 fps straigth away. Now, I guess, I have an properly working NTSC DVD version.

Import it from TVP in any frame rate you choose within the export panel and your sound track will adjust automatically as well.

I matched the sound in premiere, so I didn't think about bringing the sound into tvp.
This sounds too easy, but I'll see what happens.

Thanks

Don't forget to check the good options when you'll export. This is not a complex thing :)

Depends on the software you got. But basically the best way is to play it a bit faster. Noone can spot the difference if you play it at 24fps or 25fps. For example movies are shown in cinemas at 24fps and in television (at least in europe) you see them in 25fps, a tiny bit faster, but the difference is so small, you don't notice it.

I could explain how to do it in After Effects, Premiere and in TVpaint.

I ended up using premiere. I already had a tiff sequence and I interpreted footage to 25 fps. The movie is now 20 seconds shorter. Then I adjusted the speed of sound to 104,15%. And It seems to be unnoticable. It's discomforting to see the numbers change, but I trust it's going to be just fine. As Elodie said, it wasn't very hard. It just spooked me, because suddenly, when I finished my movie, so very many new questions came up too quickly. Needed something to lean on, so to speak.

But now it's all good, and I'm wiser than week ago.

Thanks!
