Wierd File Save - Has anyone seen this?Is this a bug?

Post by hilary »

Hi TVP-
I have a new artist working with me so I didn't save this file myself - it might have been something screwy in the way she saved but I got these weird file type along with my normal saves-151609 file and a 20130704.151609. Google searches have some vague bug info on these. Looks like it is adding the date as an extension but I don't know why there would also be a temp file? Didn't copy anything over from a jump drive....Has anyone encountered this with TVP? Worried that I have a virus on my system...not happening anywhere else though.

They are rolling backup files. The weird numbers are timestamps. This is configured under the Edit -> Preferences -> General dialog. If you hover your mouse over the Auto Backup widget, you will get an explanation of the filenames

I never erase a backup file but just drag and drop it on top of the TVP interface. Most of the time I don't even know for sure in which of the backups out of ten I will find what I am looking for. If I had to erase the extra data on each one of these it would take me forever. I think this information should be included in the manual -- including that to have at least ten backups at the minimum is highly recommended. Two is nothing and not much of a safety net.

Thanks for the info! - shows you how little I know of this program. I have never noticed this before - or used it. I go old school with backups creating dated copies myself and obsessive use of external HDs. I will probably start given where I am in production. :)
