Ability to use the panning tool on a selection of frames.

Post by Lukas »

It would be nice to be able to use the panning tool (Shape Transform: Pan) on a selection of frames.

You can, but in that cas, you just have to select the additional frames you want to modify and apply with [Enter]

I know, but it would be nice to do it without having to apply it with Enter.

With enter it goes like this:
1. Pan frame
2. Select other frames except the one you just panned
3. Hit Enter

or (what I usually do because selecting except 1 is confusing):
1. Select frames
2. Pan frame
3. Undo
4. Hit Enter

So my request is the ability to do it like this:
1. Select frames
2. Pan frames

= Ta dah! Much easier and more intuitive.

And also the ability to pan an entire layer (or multiple layers!) would be great to have:

1. Select layer(s)
2. Pan

i agree

by selecting a range you already tell the program that you want to do your action to all these frames

the most elegant and logic thing would then be for tvp to apply the transform to this range.
the Undo step has always been a very counterintuitive one.

I don't know if it's possible, but it looks like an interesting idea.

Hmmm.. but why not to use Transform instead? It works on selected frames at once. I never used Panning tool and I don't even understand why it still exists. Transform does exactly the same and more... or I there is something I don't know.

Panning tool can do pixel-perfect moves.
If you pan repeatedly, let's say to make a seamless texture, with the panning tool (non-antialiased !) you won't loose a single bit of information,
which isn't the case of the transform tool.

And somebody certainly found other uses where panning tool is better than transform tool :)

That is an important bit of information that I never knew! Thanks.

But you can do the same with Transform, either by adjusting the exact pixels in the option panel, or by using Zig's Nudg'Bar viewtopic.php?f=10&t=3948&p=32281&hilit=Nudg#p32281 without any AAliasing.
I do think though that this should be as an option in the Transform options panel - "nudge by 1 pixel increments" on/off

I still cannot think of any - could you let me know?

In a way, I agree with Soom. Panning and transform could merge together. But maybe their respective code is too different, even if they react more or less in the same way (moving stuff).

This is very important.

Another reason why I like the panning tool much better than the transform tool is the way it looks and feels. You can just move things around without the red and green borders. And you don't have to press the Apply button. It's just more WYSIWYG. If only it could move multiple layers and frames... (with preview, without having to apply) that would be nice.

I kinda like the way it's done in Photoshop - Pan, Transfrom and Warp tools are all combined into one. In TVPaint it's a bit less intuitive and takes 2 actions to make transformations that include resizing and/or rotating and warping at the same time.
But this is probably another topic, and I think it was discussed before... was it?

Well, it's still about the panning tool, so there is no really need to create a new topic.
