Re: Slash becomes colon in export window
I think that's because slashes can't be part of names anyway, only of paths.

Re: Slash becomes colon in export window
Nah, it's possible, it does actually render it. It's just confusing and you can't edit the path because it's gonna assume you want colons...

Re: Slash becomes colon in export window
Slowtiger is right. I tried emulating your description and get a pop up saying The file name is not valid. As far as Iknow, this has always been the case with Windows.

I see.
Well, OS X is not Windows.

But they have to learn to play together.

OS X is Unix underneath, and / is the path separator on Unix and can't be used in a filename (nor ASCII NUL).Lukas wrote:I see.

Well, the files did render, and they have a / in the filename. I'm sure it'll look weird when opening the file on a Unix or Windows machine, but it's a slash on a mac...idragosani wrote:OS X is Unix underneath, and / is the path separator on Unix and can't be used in a filename (nor ASCII NUL).Lukas wrote:I see.

Another reason TVPaint should not be the same on every OS. And should adjust to the OS of the user instead.

And than you can't share your file with a windows user and blame TVPaint for that...

Well, excuse me for reporting weird stuff going on in TVPaint.ematecki wrote:And than you can't share your file with a windows user and blame TVPaint for that...
Things like this never happen in any other software because they adapt to the OS. I'm only reporting this because it's one of the many weird things going on in TVPaint because it still thinks it's running on an amiga.
TVPaint can actually create files with slashes in it, and I have no idea why I would blame TVPaint for not being able to share files not supported by other operating systems:

Re: Slash becomes colon in export window
I didn't talk about *reporting* it.
But about the problems your proposed solution ("adapt to apple") implies.
*If* it gets fixed, it will be by disallowing slashes in file names, because in an "not-yet-fully-apple" world it doesn't make any sense to allow them.
And remember, I *am* an apple user (and Android, because the iOS economic model pisses me off)....
Let's imagine what will happen if we adapt to apple...
Apple does only support its latest two OSes, so let's get rid of the support of MacOSX 10.5, 10.6 and (soon) 10.7.
What a relief !
Apple doesn't support QT in 64 bits, hooray !!
Let's get rid of ffmpeg we spend so much time on to make people happy to be able to still export in QT.
How crazy they are to want to use a format even it's creator doesn't support anymore !
Another great relief !
Obviously, apple think it's useless to know where you are in the timeline, because scrollbars should only appear while you are *actively* scrolling.
I'm sure all users will really enjoy the "improvement" this adaptation to apple will bring.
Oh, and remember, there isn't ANY reference to a right-click in Apple's UI Guidelines, ctrl-click and long-clicks are the ONLY way to go....
And it goes on...

Re: Slash becomes colon in export window
I'm aware apple can be a big bitch.
But because TVPaint ignores the way things work on OS X, same things are just very annoying for the end user. That's why I think adapting is a good thing.
For example, dual monitors. When I go full screen with TVPaint, I can't put any panels on my second monitor (it would be so nice to have a Navigator panel there so I could always see what my frame looks like even though I'm drawing zoomed-in), because TVPaint has its own system of using windows/panels, instead of going with the OS. This makes my second monitor useless in TVPaint.
And dragging the main window to be big doesn't work. Because the resolution height is different on my Cintiq than on my 2nd Monitor. And the center of the project becomes exactly between my two screens, etc.
I don't care about a slash in a filename, I was just bringing it up because it was another one of these things.

Re: Slash becomes colon in export window
I agree. I have none of those problems on my PC with 4 monitors. You could consider adapting to the PC because adapting is indeed a good thing.

What happens when you use the shortcut "Zoom: Fit"? Does it zoom your project like it should on the monitor you are drawing on? Here, it certainly doesn't.Paul Fierlinger wrote:I agree. And since TVPaint is a € 1180,- mac application too, I don't see how I should adapt to windows. If you say you support multiple systems, support them.

Re: Slash becomes colon in export window
Shortcut FIT fits my image to the project window's size. To adapt always means having to give up something good for something worse or better. It's always a matter of choice.
