[SOLVED] Is there a better way to manage the Custom Icons?
[SOLVED] Is there a better way to manage the Custom Icons?
I would like to delete or reuse the icons I have created before. I have found a folder where TVPaint stores those icons, but it's a mess I wouldn't even dare to get into. The file names are just a bunch of characters and there is no way to preview them quickly, so I need to open 100 icons one by one - not the best solution : /
Is there any other way?
If not - i suggest to create an Icons Manager panel which will include renaming, deleting, adding new, grabbing and sorting the icons with dropdown separators (just like we can do on any other panel)

Re: Is there a better way to manage the Custom Icons?
During the installation, if you checked the "Thumbnail" option, you should be able to see and browse all the .dip files in your folders and your favorite pictures viewer too.
Re: Is there a better way to manage the Custom Icons?
I didn't understand the first part about installation, but I managed to view the thumbnails with XnView - so this question is solved! thanks. I still do think TVP could implement some kind of basic icons viewer.mox wrote:During the installation, if you checked the "Thumbnail" option, you should be able to see and browse all the .dip files in your folders and your favorite pictures viewer too.

Re: [SOLVED] Is there a better way to manage the Custom Icon
That's because the Thumbnail option to check is only for Windows versions.
Re: [SOLVED] Is there a better way to manage the Custom Icon
Thumbnails also work on Linux.

They don't work in Total Commander on Windows though, that's why I asked - I don't use Explorer on my work Windows computer... cause it's in French :/ and I can't even get to the hidden folders (and they are hidden)!Fabrice wrote:Thumbnails also work on Linux.

The bigger issue, a better way to manage Custom Icons, still has many UNRESOLVED issues... perhaps a new Icon manager will come with TVPaint 11?
Drag and drop buttons: easily reposition buttons within a panel and move/copy buttons between panels.
Option to rename icon-files already assigned to buttons and have them maintain their existing button associations?
Button icon design utility for creating and editing individual icons?

I set up a Total Commander's folder in "thumbnail view" and I can see the *.tvpp and *.dip thumbnails, same as Explorer or XnView (still the best viewer to display this kind of pictures anyway).Soom wrote:They don't work in Total Commander on Windows though, that's why I asked - I don't use Explorer on my work Windows computer... cause it's in French :/ and I can't even get to the hidden folders (and they are hidden)!Fabrice wrote:Thumbnails also work on Linux.

Weird - how did you get it to work? Which version Windows are you on?mox wrote: I set up a Total Commander's folder in "thumbnail view" and I can see the *.tvpp and *.dip thumbnails, same as Explorer or XnView (still the best viewer to display this kind of pictures anyway).
Yap - I already had a request on that - an appropriate palettes managing system would be a great improvementSvengali wrote:Drag and drop buttons: easily reposition buttons within a panel and move/copy buttons between panels.

Windows 8 and TC 8.01Soom wrote:Weird - how did you get it to work? To see the icons, I switched to the options "thumbnails" from the top left menu, 4th button for me.
If it works with Explorer and XnView, it should work with other viewers too, since it's a system thingy.
Re: [SOLVED] Is there a better way to manage the Custom Icon
same on my laptop, with the same version of Total Commander

Yes - I know how to set Thumbnails view in TC, but they show blank square. I am on Windows 7, TC 8.01...mox wrote: Windows 8 and TC 8.01

Actually - I just checked, and my windows explorer also doesn't show those thumbnails, so the problem is on a system level probably. only XnView shows them well...
