Can we secure this forum against random bot-posts?
These bot-posts seem to be appearing more and more often. Can something be done about that, please?
Maybe a member verification before new members are allowed to post? Or some other security measure?

I think the moderators remove them as soon as they see them, but they are becoming more and more frequent.
Often they are these very long nonsense posts with links in them to some other site. Where those links go I don't know but I fear that they can be very unsafe (virus etc).

Indeed, we remove spams as soon as we detect them.Sewie wrote:I think the moderators remove them as soon as they see them, but they are becoming more and more frequent.

Renewing the random questions we ask when suscribing should do the job.

Re: Can we secure this forum against random bot-posts?
same IP is complicated, we have many users working from home, office, etc ...
a better captcha, maybe.
the actual problem is we are not facing bots, but humans.

Human bots... One has to think that they will eventually tire out; they seem to be the same ones or two's... It's more infantile intent to be a pest than an effort to make a sale.

More likely, they are just trying to get click-throughs on their links, whether or not they make a sale. I think the admins do a great job weeding these messages out, most times when I get a notification that a new message has appeared in a thread I am watching, the bad message is already gone when I try to view it.

Re: Can we secure this forum against random bot-posts?
can you not set the forum so only regulars can post links?
say that only after about 10 posts you can include links, that would give the team enough time to judge someones intend/seriousness

Yes, why not. But what's about students or artists who just subscribe to share their work ? =/
