Sound files not reloaded
Hi all.
I have a project with several soundtracks loaded to it. I save the project but when I open it the nex day I have this message that TVP is not able to find the sound files, doe you want to find anotherone. I click yes and than I can load the same sound file. Not doeing this means there are no sound files in the project. Since I have several clips all with sound it takes me a lot of time to reload all the soundfiles again. The soundfiles are stored in the project File.
I can't find the reason for this not in the manual nor in this forum. Anyone knows this problem?
By the way I saved dependencies in the project. No difference.
Henk

Re: Sound files not reloaded
What happens if you store the files elsewhere on a HD? This is at least the first experiment I would try. It seems to me that your problem could stem from the way the files are stored rather than with TVP directly, since this hasn't happened yet to anyone else (at least I haven't heard of it before). What format are you using?

Re: Sound files not reloaded
Hi Paul.
I tried your suggestion. Same problem. So I made a new project and loaded the sound effects from another location and everything works fine. No problem.
I never mattered to me where my sound files came from. Never problems. Untill I loaded a file from a external HD. The nex day the external HD was off and I got this message.
At the time it seemed logic to me so I made a habbit of it to save all the sound files in the file of the job I'm working on. ( not the project file.) Everything related to that job goes in that file. No problem. Why should there be a problem.
But I had the the same problem over some years now. I think it strarted with TVP 9. I don't know for sure anymore. Because it was not a regularly problem I didn't spend the time to find out what was wrong.
What do you mean by format?
Henk.

Re: Sound files not reloaded
So it works now; your files stick with the project? By format I meant *.wav, or mp3 or whatever else and perhaps the source can matter; where do the tracks come from, that kind of stuff. People on Vegas encounter such issues often enough, from what I see on that forum.

Re: Sound files not reloaded
Well it works in new project that I made to see if it made a difference. In the project I was working on it didn't solve the problem when I stored the sound files in another DIR on the HD.
I was using a .wav file. no problem loading and using it during the job.
Still it makes no sense to me. What does TVP mind where the files come from. If it's on "Computer/CS(G) /Sound/efecten/BLOOP.wav" or on "Computer/DATA (F) / Production/ RICOH/SOUND/BLOOB.wav". Everything is on the same HD. That it matters where the sound comes from is a fact. All the productions I made in the past are without sound when I open them because the sound is not on the backup. I only backuped the aura files or the mirage files. That's why I copy the sound files in the Job DIR with no problems in the past.
I was glad to learn you can attach the sound files to the .TVPP's by "save dependencies in the project", but it made no difference.
If I have time I'll redo the same project and leave the sound files in it's original place.
Henk.

Re: Sound files not reloaded
This makes sense to me. It is a strange problem you have because I've never experienced this issue or heard of anyone else having it. The Save dependencies works very well for us and is a big relief indeed. If I have time I'll redo the same project and leave the sound files in it's original place.

Re: Sound files not reloaded
I could not resist to check.
Everything I made in the past is missing part of it's soundfiles. Some files are reloaded because they all can be found in it's original place. I didn't move them. The missing files are files from a faulty disk and I backuped them to new disk. As soon as I tell TVP where the missing files are located it works without a problem. No message asking for a missing file anymore. So I can't understand why TVP keeps asking for missing files in this project where I did exactly the same. I relocated the files and directed TVP to the files in the new location.
I must have a very bad combination of hard- and software because I keep having the weirdest problems I never had before. They come and go at will.
Henk.

Re: Sound files not reloaded
Since there seems to be no fix because your problem is so exotic, what about your idea to just copy all the layers from the weird TVP project and pasting them into the new, test one which worked? If you can't get an answer to your Why? question, just go with the How? question you have an answer to, and continue working in peace.

Re: Sound files not reloaded
Hi all
Sorry. I've been out.
I have "solved" the problem. It's simple and I feel rather silly.
If you load a sounfile into TVP It's not loaded into the project. ( I always assumed the soundfile was stored in the project just like the images.)
When you load a project, TVP looks where the file is located and loads it again into the project. If you, for whatever reason, change the location of the soundfile on your disk, TVP can't find the sound file anymore and so this message appears to let you load the files from another location. If you do so the project opens with alle the files in it's place. But....you have to SAVE the project to store the new location of the soundfiles. If you don't the nex time you open the project you get the message again.
I now realize that it was 30 ? years ago I started using TVPaint on Amiga and it wasn't obvious how and where computers stored your stuf. In al these years I had no disk that broke down on me and I kept all the projects on those disks so I never was triggered to rethink the location of the soundfiles.
Just lately I relocated my sound files. This caused the problem I now realize.
Paul. Where do you store your sound files? You never had this problem even though you don't copy your sound files into your jobfile?
Fabrice. If you have alot of clips you have to load the soundfiles for every single clip. In my case I had 8 clips ( versions) so they all had the same soundfiles. So the message kept asking me to reload the same soundfiles over and over again. For this reason I thought there was something wrong. I didn't made no sense to me, and you're in a hurry etc. ect.
Sorry to have bothered you with no problem.
Henk.

Re: Sound files not reloaded
Henk, I do have a project file where I keep everything connected to the project, includig documents, Vegas files and press kits, but it's on a separate HD from the C: drive, where TVP runs. I am working on three projects now and I have 3 large HDs in my computer, so I keep each project on its own HD and each one of those drives are pretty fast. I haven't had a file management problem in many years because I share your experiences with the Amiga, also my first computer and I also never knew where my files went. Not to learn and practice good filing habits is a serious mistake, as I soon discovered, and quickly got myself into a deep quagmire. That's when someone told me about Directory OPUS for the Amiga and I got my files in order. I use OPUS to this day. Made in Australia, It costs just $ 80,00 and it's well worth every penny.

Re: Sound files not reloaded
Hi Paul.
That explanes it. You never change the location of your files. As I never did. I keep things very organized. My jobs are too small to put on a separate disk but as yours they are not on the C drive.
I was fooled by the message that repeatedly asked for the same set of files and because a number of things keep going wrong alot lately. I was pissed off instead of thinking straight.
I used Directory Opus on the Amiga as well. I know it is available for Windows but I don't have problems with Explorer. It can be annoying though.
I think back with pleasure on the Amiga's. The first HD was 25 Mb. Most of my project files fitted on a floppydisk.
Henk.

Re: Sound files not reloaded
Hi everyone, sorry to revive this thread, but I'm having a similar problem and I'm still not understanding how to fix it. My sound files worked fine on my laptop, but when I opened up the project on a desktop at school, the Sound files couldn't be opened.
It simply says" Can't open the file" .. with the file path after it. I tried to make a new project and load the sound file to see if it would work. Still nothing.
Is it a problem with the school computer? Why wouldn't TVP be able to open my files? They are .WAV's. and I haven't moved them from their original place on my flash drive, ever.
Please help.. This is quite frustrating!

Thanks for any feedback!

Re: Sound files not reloaded
Do you upload your sound from "file" top menu or from the timeline for sound ?
In the first case, that's normal : open / import from "file" menu only opens tvpaint files and footage.

Hey Elodie, I was importing from the place on the timeline and was getting the error message.
