Installing Plugins/Tools/Brushes?

Post by strangejourney12 »

I know I might embarrass myself asking this, but how do you install plugins and brushes? I'm very new to using TVPaint, so it's very different to me compared to Paint Tool Sai and Photoshop. Usually, I can learn how to do that all of that, myself, but I can't seem to do it?

If it's a TVPX file, all you do is download and save it somewhere on your HD and then just drag and drop over to your TVP interface. It's then important to save it again because if you don't, it can get lost during a crash. Do that by RMB anywhere in a black area of the panel>This Panel>Export as TVPX...

Welcome kay, nice to see you at the right TVPaint information place. :)

You can also embed the .tvpx with your .tvpp animation files, so the tools stays linked to your project.
It's nice when you have to work on BG (for instance) and also want to keep track of the tools you have used.

Once you have a plugin installed, check your key command shortcuts CTRL+K and there's a good likelihood you will find shortcut assigns pertaining to the plugin.

My plug-ins don't show up where the manual says they should. In particular I'm looking to trigger the waveform monitor today, but the only one which shows up is
Directshow though of course the old faithful ones I'm used to from days of yore are are also nowhere to be found... Not in the plug-ins folder in the installation files, where I thought I could just drag and drop them...

I know it should be thanks, Fabrice, but it isnt. Colour factory isnt there either. (that's ok.)
Just Direct Show.
Should I reinstall, choosing "install video plug-ins" (which I understood
from the installation instructions applies to integrating
the programme with specific video hardware?)

Hello dgrantham,

The fact is that Waveform plugin and Colour factory plugin are available directly in the 32bit version.
Rightnow, the better solution is to install TVPaint Animation 10.5 32bit and 64bit together, if you want to use one of these special plugin.

Thanks Leo. It's worth saying that although I use TVP for animation too, having first learned to colour correct on TVPaint (as Mirage) I still find its correction abilities quite strong - they're much easier to use than the in-app tools of AVID media composer I find, for example. Nonetheless I don't turn to it first for that - a more NLE-friendly app is usually a better choice. But I am finding TVPs stabilization tools more versatile than other apps too, and when I use them it's handy to have the correction tools there. All to say that the waveform and scope tools are a great thing to have in the heftiest (64bit) version, for me. FOr now I guess it's the 32 bit version for those things.
