Possibility to toggle a tool temporarily
Possibility to toggle a tool temporarily
This might sound a weird request, but I wonder, if there is a possibility to toggle a certain tool temporarily by holding down some key, and after releasing, switching back to the previous tool? Maybe some little nice script?
For example - I use a lot the 3pts spline for cleanup, but I need to fix little details with the free stroke. I don't want to click them every time I want to switch and I don't want to use more than 1 keyboard shortcut, it's just not handy with Cintiq. I wonder if I could, let's say, just hold one button which would instead toggle the other tool...
Thanks

And while waiting the new feature use shortcut for Tools Brush:Get previous tool. It helps a little.

Re: Possibility to toggle a tool temporarily
Actually there is such a tool built into TVP. I think it's called Swap Stylus Tips. But I use a plugin Svengali made, called
SWAP ERASE. I forgot why I like it better but I think it doesn't need to be refreshed when you use another tool. You have to experiment... Svengali's SWAP should be easy to find in search.

Hmm - but then I need another key for Next in order to go back to the previous tool?elmisilhumano wrote: +1

I downloaded both of the tools I found, and I couldn't get the Swap Erase to work - I am probably missing some obvious detail... But the older one - Swap Tool - actually works! It's not exactly what I want in this request, but it's close. Thanks. I wonder if Sven could alter this script, so it could work as a temporary toggle - so it works only on button pressed down, and toggles back on release?

No it swaps between two last used tools. Actually I don't know what is the difference with this and the swap stylus tips?Soom wrote:Hmm - but then I need another key for Next in order to go back to the previous tool?elmisilhumano wrote: +1

Re: Possibility to toggle a tool temporarily
I tried it - indeed it swaps between two tools, but it doesn't do the main thing (like Svens plugin does) - it doesn't remember drawing mode. I need to swap between Freebrush and Spline tools, not between the pen tip shape itself. Same doesn't swap pen tips...elmisilhumano wrote: No it swaps between two last used tools. Re: Possibility to toggle a tool temporarily
What if you create a custom panel with the both tools, then you edit the different brushes and insert a new command at the top, using Set Keystroke > Shape > Freehand / B-splines ?
Then, give them a name, to assign them to a key.
Something like this :
But to save time, that would be handy to grab a tool with the shape (stroke, b-spline...)

not easy in the current engine. But to save time, that would be handy to grab a tool with the shape (stroke, b-spline...)

Re: Possibility to toggle a tool temporarily
Hmmm... But this would mean to create 2 versions for each tool, which will fill up my workspace - not the best option if I want to keep it minimal... Assigning keys to each tool is even worse - I already don't have even one free key and it's not handy on Cintiq anyway.Elodie wrote:What if you create a custom panel with the both tools, then you edit the different brushes and insert a new command at the top, using Set Keystroke > Shape > Freehand / B-splines ?

By the way - there is more to this problem: the pen tips also don't remember drawing modes, which means if I draw with spline, and flip the pen to erase, it will also stay in spline no matter what it was before. Even worse - adding the "freehand" action to the eraser didn't help either - the pen can't remember that, unless I click the eraser button again.
I tried to use these Sven's Swap plugins, which, as I presumed, are supposed to solve this problem, but I can't get neither of them to work - nothing happens. (Paul, Sven - any suggestions on this? thanks)

Soom, Not sure which plugins you are referring to... where did you find the swap plugins? when I search for them myself I come up empty. Can you provide links?Soom wrote:I tried to use these Sven's Swap plugins, which, as I presumed, are supposed to solve this problem, but I can't get neither of them to work - nothing happens.
