Blue Screen of Doom
Blue Screen of Doom
Hello,
Today I turned on my computer and started Tvpaint. To my horror I see that all my settings were reset, including panels and creation pack etc. After two hours of frustration I managed to reconfigure tvpaint to where I was before.
After working all day long on a very delicate beautiful project of mine I decide to take a break and go out for a walk. I save my work and then I shutdown Tvpaint. Boom, a blue screen and memory dump appears. So I think to myself, what the hell ?
I reboot my computer and start Tvpaint to see, just to be sure, that I can open my project. I saved the damn thing alright????
To my absolute dismay and horror I now discover that I can't even open my project!!!!!!! That I worked hours on end and animated the most beautiful stuff! God Damn you Tvpaint to hell! And no Backup due to the goddamn settings that were reset today!!!
Now all gone.
Today I feel like I could die.
A file was created called 184433 together with my file. What the hell is going on???? Updated Tvpaint Pro to latest version last night.
Miserable miserable day....
Thank you and Good Day!

Re: Blue Screen of Doom
Which version of TVP are you using? Think about that hard...

I am using the latest of the latest.
10.5.5-64 bit
Updated yesterday so something may be fishy with this.
Win 7 Professional

Re: Blue Screen of Doom
Never ever over the years I saw TVPaint crashing + generating a BOSD ... you are maybe the first one since this forum was created.
About the lost settings, what did you select in the Preferences panel ? Was it "always the same configuration" ?
It might explain the encountered problem.
Please send us the corrupted file via wetransfer or so ... Then we will test tomorrow if we can recover something for you.
Also, we will probably discover the why the file was corrupted and how.
I will send you my email via PM.
nb : next time, change the preferences "auto-backup" value to 2 or 3 so you can keep a safe project each time you save.
(btw, the "auto-backup" should be renamed as "multiple backup", probably a better name)

Yes,
I have used the autobackup system before, now today the settings were reset somehow, I don't understand why. The settings were set on "use last settings" not always same. Hopefully I had exported some of my panels and some of my keyboard command bindings so that wasn't the worst problem of today. But to experience a bsod and then not being able to open your file that was horrible. Worked on the scene for a week...
I never experienced this corruption of the tvpp files so I haven't worried about that during the years. However, The autobackup can also be a real pain sometimes due to the exhausting long saving times if I am working on large projects that are many gigs in size, which I do, but better to have a backup than having no backup.
Sorry for being mad and that I expressed myself in a harsh and upset manner. This is the first time that I really felt bad about something like this.
Nobody likes to lose their art work.
I really hope you guys can save my file, will take a while to upload though
Thank you

It's understandable. No problem.Sorry for being mad and that I expressed myself in a harsh and upset manner. This is the first time that I really felt bad about something like this.

Re: Blue Screen of Doom
Well, now I worked my way up again from yesterdays crash.
Made a new version of the project file that I was working on(based on a backup from way back that I found! hurray)
So now maybe I made an even better version of my animation and background compared to the crashed and corrupted file.
Sometimes you need punishment in order to strive on forward
I will try and cope with future disasters hopefully better next time
Cheers guys!

Yay! This never fails -- the second time around always works out to bring better results and it makes sense; practice makes perfect. BTW, I use a separate backup software that works in such a way that each time I save in TVP, it makes a backup on an external hard drive.

Yeah - using an external backup drive is a good idea. I have one connected to my computer constantly with automatic backup. It can prove to be very very helpful.
On the other hand - I agree - sometimes you need these kind of cataclysms to achieve progress and not get stuck!

We have restored a couple of frames, then the file was "truncated", then only unreadable informations ...
a typical hardrive crash/failure.
I will send you the download link.
