Re: Strange Video Input behavior
The only thing I can think of, is when getting the download off the website, I put my Brother's name in, but the the Help>About TVP Animation say's it's licensed in my name. Would that have any effect on it? I can't imagine it would, because it still let me download the file...

The name of the purchaser shouldn't be a factor as long as you have the Lock/Unlock license codes.LivieLightyear wrote:The only thing I can think of, is when getting the download off the website, I put my Brother's name in, but the the Help>About TVP Animation say's it's licensed in my name. Re: Strange Video Input behavior
I happen to still have TVP 9.5.18 and indeed, the camera tool is there... so weird. If it would be me, I'd uninstall TVP entirely from the computer and then reinstall.

Re: Strange Video Input behavior
+1 : go to you app data folder and delete tvp animation 9 default folder to reset your configuration. Then, be sure you are running tvpaint 9,5 and not tvpaint 9 (maybe 2 différent tvpaint are installed ? ).
You can also hit ctrl when you start tvpaint : start up panel will appear and then you could reset your configuration.
Never had such an issue in 7 years :p

Re: Strange Video Input behavior
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program and the updates and the problem persists.
This is a "new" thing, however.
When I reinstalled TVP, it gave me "TVP Animation 9 Pro" and "TVP Animation 9 Pro (32 bits)" My computer is 64 bits, but I opened it anyway, and it was slightly different from the "regular" version. It still doesn't look like the updated version, however. It DOES GRAB THE IMAGE but only at 720 x 480 and it will not allow me to get a higher resolution. I originally thought this was the camera, but I was able to get a HD image out of it in DragonFrame.
I'll be able to work with this, but having the update actually work and a better quality image when grabbing animation frames would be desirable... I might end up using dragonframe anyway if I can't get decent images through tvp.
This is very discouraging!

Re: Strange Video Input behavior
it occurs on Windows when you update the software while it's open.
please close TVPaint before the update.

Re: Strange Video Input behavior
I'm pretty sure I did not have it open when I ran the update, but I will re-do and make sure to see if it makes a difference.

Re: Strange Video Input behavior
I tried it again, and made sure TVP was closed before I ran the update, and nothing changed.
However, I think I'm uninstalling/removing the program incorrectly or incompletely. I am uninstalling TVP via My Computer>Uninstall or Change a Program and selecting TVP to be removed, checking all boxes for removal, and rebooting the system after it's finished. When I got to reinstall, it doesn't ask me for my lock and unlock codes. Does that mean I didn't fully remove everything? I left my dongle in. Should I have taken it out?

This part seems to be fine.I am uninstalling TVP via My Computer>Uninstall or Change a Program and selecting TVP to be removed, checking all boxes for removal, and rebooting the system after it's finished.
Indeed, but the problem is not here. It's not linked to the software version. When I got to reinstall, it doesn't ask me for my lock and unlock codes. Does that mean I didn't fully remove everything?

I wonder if you have 2 versions of the software installed (like the 32 and 64 bit versions).
Would you mind checking in both "program file" & "program file x86" folders if their is a TVPaint folder ?
Also, are you in an admin session on windows ?
According to the screenshots, your software font seems different than usual too, I have to think about it.

Re: Strange Video Input behavior
The problem doesn't come from the downloaded file, it is a 9.5.21.
The version 9.5 is only on 32 bits and there is no problem to use it on a 64bits system.
Once you double click on the installer, you said "When it came to the option page of "Modify" "Repair" or "Remove" I chose "Modify"", can you take screenshoot please, because the installer should not propose this.
And as Fabrice said, please can you check what you have in your directory "c:/Program Files/TVPaint Developpement" AND "c:/Program Files (x86)/TVPaint Developpement".
How do you start TVPaint Animation, you double click on an icon on the desktop ? you use the shortcut in the windows button "Start > All Programs > TVPaint Developpement > TVPaint Animation ..." ?

Re: Strange Video Input behavior
Hello all, Thank so much for all the info and things to try that you've posted. I just checked my program files, and:
C:>Program Files>( No TVP?? )
C:>Program Files (x86)>TVP Development
I don't know if this is good or bad or what.
I am in an Admin Session. My OS is a Vista
I open TVP via the start menu, "popular programs" that come up on the top of the list. (I try to use TVP a lot for diddly little pencil tests, and haven't noticed anything amiss, minus the disappearance of a tool that I don't remember removing and couldn't get back) I usually always click on the one that just says "TVP Animation 9 Pro" only recently have I even seen the option for a "32 bits" version. Attached is what my start menu looks like.
They both share the un-updated look. The 32 bits version varies from the other one slightly. I noticed that the 32 bit one has two separate windows for Input video and output video, while the other one does it with one window that has two tabs.
I haven't been doing any troubleshooting for the past few days because I have a lot of midterm deadlines to accomplish in a short amount of time. My Spring break begins on Sunday, and family plans prevents me from messing with the computer that day, so I will be resuming troubleshooting on Monday.
Thank you for all the help so far!
I will get screenshots of what I mean when I say it says "modify" "repair" or "remove" on Monday when I can start messing with it again. That window only appears when I go to install the update (9.5.21)
I will take screenshots on Monday!
Thank you again!
Liv

Re: Strange Video Input behavior
Ok, it's clearer.
The name with "(32 bits)" is the last version of TVPaint Animation 9.5.21.
So, what you can do to be sure:
_ go to the directory C:>Program Files (x86)>TVPaint Developpement
_ you should have 1 directory inside like "TVP Animation 9 Pro ..."
_ go to it
_ (if I'm right) you should have 4 exe files:
*TVP Animation 9 Pro (32bits).exe
*TVP Animation 9 Pro (32bits) Uninstaller.exe
*TVP Animation 9 Pro.exe
*TVP Animation 9 Pro Uninstaller.exe
_ double-click on "TVP Animation 9 Pro Uninstaller.exe", and finish the process
_ double-click on "TVP Animation 9 Pro (32bits) Uninstaller.exe", and finish the process
_ now you can install again TVPaint Animation from the file you downloaded
_ Once installed, you must have only 1 shortcut "TVP Animation 9 Pro (32bits)" in your start menu

Re: Strange Video Input behavior
I uninstalled everything, including the "Sentinel installer" and even so, it never asked for my unlock and lock codes. Shouldn't it have?
I did NOT install the disk again, only the file of the update. That seemed to remove the extra icon and shortcut, but does the program look right? Is the loss of the side panel with all the tools a part of the update (maybe for workflow?) I really like having those tools there, but I'm not sure how to get them back. I discovered that the "modify, repair, or remove" was not for TVP itself, but for the sentinel installer (I have to run through installing it automatically each time I installed TVP and the TVP update) I do now only have one shortcut in the start menu, and only one shortcut on my desktop. Both say "32 bits" on them, so there's that problem fixed, I suppose! But I have to ask how the program itself looks, because I do not know what it's supposed to look like...
(Sorry for the late response. After the assignment was completed and we were on Spring Break, I had a full plate and busy agenda that didn't give me the time needed to sit with this and do what needed doing. Thank you for your patience!)
Liv
EDIT!!! Never mind about the missing side panel! I just discovered the nifty way it pops out when you swipe your mouse over it.
(She CAN be taught! ...maybe)
